Ferrari's also have a $300,000 pricetag...

Does anyone buy an A'Dub or S'Dub because of their spacious boot?

And wouldn't a Spyder keep up with the other naturally aspirated variations of the MR2?

How do you convert the car to manual for $3k? I imagine all the parts would be ex-japan and i'd reckon you'd have to muck around with the ECU for it not to go into limp mode due to the lack of an Auto and it's associated sensors so you'd probably have to change that as well.

If it can be done for $3k I would really like to own a ZZW.

I thought you just bridged a couple of pins at the ECU.

It wouldn't go into limp mode, it just won't start cause it'll think its in drive.

btw who told you the timing chain needs replacing at 120.000kms? Corollas have the same engine, and I've never had to replace the chain before. Even way up past 200,000kms and it's still fine.

I will agree that the gearbox is a dog, slow shifting and poor reliability etc. Handling is pretty nice, I thought it felt a bit loose compared to my AW11s but then it's also lighter, so that could be it.
There would probably be a Spyder in my driveway too if I could afford one (it would have to be a manual import though!)

"Timing Chain, not belt, so nice" / the $700ish for the 120K kms service does not include the chain and tensioner/s? which as you point out shouldn't need changing praps I wasn't clear.

basho if you want to get a nicer engine as well terry will have a bit of experience with the 2gr shortly, I reckon that with a manual box would make alot of SW's look slow.

i really dont have any problem with my gearbox. off the line its not great but apart from that, especially once warmed up it is not noticable at all. and yes straight line speed it is as good as na SW from the drives i have been on. and if you want a straight line fast car why buy a mr2????????? this car is made for the twisties and SMT and all it is fantastic. i have 3 spyders 1 AW and owned and sold a SW.
For the track a SW would be the better choice but i want to hillclimb it too. and thats where the spyder will come into its own.
It just depends what you want to get out of the car?
Top Gear rates the spyder above the AW in the top 100 and the SW isn't in there.

Yeah but Top Gear where most likely driving the manual version, not the auto.

Well I'd be in one of these in a heartbeat but I just can't get over the up to $10K for a clutch replacement nor drive a car that has that type of potential bill built into what can be described as consumeable part/s.

On a more positive note has anyone tried or actualy sourced the selector and pump from OS , plug leads for my BMW were $700.00 for 4 at the dealers here and $180.00 for a full set of OE factory replacements including the fittings to my door by APS in 4-6 days from Europe or the US.
--Just a thought.
