Need Catalytic converter for my 1990 MR2 GT

Hi All! I recently took my baby to get the ugly 4 inch single exhaust replaced and return to the original twin pipes and have discoverd i need a new catalytic converter at a quote of $1200.. does this price seem high? any ideas of maybe doing this cheaper? Many thanks..
