intake temps plays a big role in making or losing power, 1 psi more of boost gives u x% more power, lower ur intake temps say 10 degrees will give you x% more power if u keep the pressure the same.

sidemount IC(without some sort of fan/cooling blowing thru it) = heatsoak/ high intake temps/lower than expected potential power

front mount IC with fans blowing thru it will always be a better set up
that's why a lot of mr2 big power builders change over to w2a set up to try counteract heatsoak and get better intake temps

Well according to one of my trusty mech's who has worked on both cars, he claims the SR20 makes more power quite easily. I think stock if I remember the SR20's only run 7 psi whereas the Gen 3 is already on 10-13 psi. Not staying the 3SGTE can't make reliable power but all things equal (stock) the SR20 is already rated higher.
As much as I love my Toyota's even Honda's VTEC system trumps the Beams
Even if the Rex makes more power, MR2 got the looks and rarity. Rexs and Silvias are dime in a dozen. The universe seems to have some kind of compensation law where everything seems to be fair or tries to be. You get this and lose the other. With this belief I made made peace with most things lol
Flame suit on...

lol... here we go.
i agree, it's certainly easier doing up just about anything else..... having the engine in the front with decent access, having a front intercooler, parts availability, and every second mechanic reckons they know SR20's and EJ20's... and a bajillion boy racers who have tried and failed to learn from.

I reckon that lot makes a bigger difference than any stock differences between a 3S, SR, EJ, or 4G.

shootout mode is great...  i think Dyno Dynamics in shootout gives you the best indication but there are still a FEW variables (different modes)... when mine got done last (in shootout) my mech had just changed his dyno to 4wd and cars that HAD been reading 245&260kw on the 2wd were getting 215 & 230kw... pretty consistent 30kw down from the 2wd dynodynamics in shootout. I'm not sure (possible teething problems  with new dyno, i'll have to see if it's sorted now) and there's always air temps... Dyno's are a tuning tool and good for a laugh, a sausage sizzle and discussion.

Although my car made 345.1 rwkw i wouldnt have cared if it made less, i would just be happy to see how the engine/car is going.

345.1 rwkw????? Not in an MR2 surely?  That is impressive in any car though.

1 thing to remember is that a dyno day is about having some fun, hearing some engines being given a hard time and chatting with everyone. Although my car made 345.1 rwkw i wouldnt have cared if it made less, i would just be happy to see how the engine/car is going. Cars don't stay at the same power level forever.

+1
I think that's exactly what a Club Dyno Day should be all about.
Turbo's not making enough power??
My car is an old stock Gen2 3sge NA and I was surprised to even get 92.8 kw ha ha.

only numbers to indicate true performance are 1/4 mile times.
there are still too many variables on the dyno to compare one car to another.

Many years ago, we had a mr2 vs supra 1/4 day.
our poor ct20b 200kw mr2 gave all the 300kw+ supra an embarrassing lesson.

Dyno are great at adjusting your timing maps and cam adjustments.

SR20 might make easy power but it is very poorly designed in comparison to the 3S asides from the fact that it is alloy block with floating bores.

Tthe cam gear setup is poo just like the cam angle sensor that almost 80-90% of fail, and anything beyond 200kw you need to pull the motor out and get the bores re-sleeved as the stock ones are weak.

What's a common fail on the 3S? ohh wait it's the sound of silence

is anyone gonna post their graphs?

I'm curious about how many torques people produced and where in their rev ranges... mine sits on 350nm till redline, just wondering if thats pretty consistent with everyone elses.

Monaro not a MR2 sadly.

Here is the graph from my NSX. They are 188kw and this is a 4 speed auto. The drop is hitting the speed limiter in 3rd then ran it in 4th.
It's a 1991 with only intake and cat back exhaust.
