ok so had a lookies under the car today, trying to suss out this shifter issue.  The linkages at the gearbox end seem to be ok, a rubber hose was a little loose and in the shift forks, so i moved it. I doubt that that was what was causing the issue, (i made a thread - it won't shift over the 1st or 2nd properly.)  I'm beginning to think that it may be internal to the gearbox.  :(

I'm going to have to wait for it to happen again, then see if i can see the external reason that this is happening... otherwise it'll be a box out and rebuild repair :(  - if that happens i may do an LSD upgrade at the same time, as i'm assuming that fixing the box would be around $1k anyways, and suck a lot of time :(

i need to check the seals on the brakes too.

hey mate,
just out of interest how do you make the horn work with the later model mr2 steering wheel?
the "disc" where the wire's attached to doesnt seem to want to move with the steering wheel and the line just comes off as soon as the steering wheel turns

Hey Chiksluvit. just saw your post. Um it plugged straight in.  sounds like something might be broken on your wheel or something.

ok general update.

Looks like I've got two pressing issues.  Gear selection is rapidly getting more and more ****ty.  I couldn't engage first OR second this morning driving to the station. Time to upgrade the linkages and see if this fixes the problem.

Second issue is my rocker cover is leaking on the alternator (rear side) (common fault).  To get access to it, I'll have to remove the intake manifold (something I haven't done before on any car!)  but doesn't seem too scary.  I'm not sure how many gaskets I'll need to replace on the car though...

And also one of my plastic undertrays is loose as was discovered at the HH track day. I should probably get around to fixing that, as there are some trips to the snow in the car's future! :)

Shouldn't have to take the plenum off just the IC pipe and Throttle body etc. At least then you can replace the dodgy phillips head screws with good hex ones.

Ok late update, but on Monday I took the day off and got a lil bit of stuff done for the car.

Ordered the DeltaAV base bushings and linkages as well as the cam cover hex bolts, which arrived very promptly on Monday (thanks Trav and Nick).  Excellent products, but I found it wasn't the bushings that was causing my shifting to not work properly, it was this:

GOD DAMN IT! either way only put the baseplate bushings in, but made a noticeable change to shifting (it's much more defined), looking forwarding to putting the linkages in probably over the weekend.

I also checked the oil levels (which were low) so put my remaining 1L of oil I had spare in, and found this in the cap!

WTF is that?!?!?!? asking some of my car mates, they seem to think BHG :( I did have stop leak in there at one point however....  I've cleaned it up and I'll see if this re-occurs.

Also pulled out the dash to check the temp gauge resistances (which were approximately what is called for in the owners manual), so unless there is a loose connection somewhere I have NFI what's causing it to fail (maybe I should try replacing the sensor).

I also did some measuring and inspecting.  Front swaybar mount bushings are split, but the rest are all good. I've got 18mm front and rear swaybars too. I'm thinking I'll get this from Twosrus.  (not sure if I should just get the set of bushings or not - they're cheap), but will also get a 3sgte cam cover seal kit

next up is the seals - first will be cam cover as a DIY, unless the head gasket is blown. :S
Car was also prepped for the snow, putting the 235s on the rear (I've got chains to fit) (instead of the 275s)

Few other things to do -
Current list is:
- Cam cover seal
- replace front swaybar mount bushings
- fix underbody tray
- coolant flush (still have to do) and replace cold start injector
- interior light globe is loose (need to fix)
- breaks weep slightly.
- IC piping clamps
- mount the amp on the floor of the boot (was on the side, but caused problems.
- degrees engine and find the rest of the leaks
- raise the rear coilovers (slightly
- find what is causing the temp gauge not to work anymore. (happened at the track day).

it's a fairly long list :|

if you drive short distances (10-15min) to the station everyday the engine will no get hot enough to get rid of the moisture in the engine this is what you see under the oil cap. it wont happen in summer just during winter times

clean it up take it for a really long drive and let it sit overnight if its there again in the mroning then you may have a problem. hope its not a BHG, check your coolant cap as well as the overflow reservoir for the same stuff in there which could possibly indicate a BHG

i might also be intersted in some bushes from twosrus let me know when your orderign and maybe i can combine with you.

cheers

Your mates are correct in that there is evidence for a BHG here.
"One of the most common tell-tale signs is a milky-gray ring around your oil cap. When coolant enters the engine oil through a crack in the head or through a blown gasket, it evaporates and leaves a milky ring around the oil cap."

PS: I've used Stop Leak in the past and haven't noticed any milky residue around the cap either.

when I do my coolant I'll check for colour there too :) should happen on Saturday :)

certainly hope it's not a BHG :(  I do only drive short distances in the car...

oh tasks - I've still got the ecu to consider too...
