Yes, another one of these threads, sorry :(
I am looking at buying some new rims and tyres package from someone but not sure if this would fit. The fronts are 17x 8 +35 with a 235/45 and the rears are 17x 9 +38 with a 255/40. My car is lowered using lowering springs sitting at 330mm all around.
Tyres are too big to fit, yeah?

Rears should be ok, fronts will be too big; try a 215/40 instead

Ah thanks. That's what I thought. The tyres/ rims were all part of a package that a guy was selling. Rear tyres might still be too big though, isn't it?

They might be depending on your particular car setup, but there's a good chance they will be ok with the size/offset of the wheel. Quite a few SW20's around running that size on the rear, only way to be sure is to test fit them.

For reference I've run 215/40/17 up front and 255/40 on the rear with a 17" without problems.

with the 265/35/18 i've got now, there will be the occasional scrub on heavy drops.

Cheers, Dylan. What was your offset on the rear when you were running 255/40?

My rears just scrub with 235/40/17 17 x 9 +35 on stock suspension, but only because I don't have my guards rolled. If you have your guards rolled then I imagine you should be fine. My fronts are 215/40/17 on 17 x 8 +35.

Maybe a stupid question (first time buying new rims) but what are the things to check to make sure it will not scrub against the guards/ fender/ suspension?
I did some googling but couldn't find any useful tips for beginners.

Check out this calculator. http://91mr2.com/wheel-and-tire-calculator/
It's the new version of Gordaen's wheel calc site.
  1. Enter your current(old) wheel values or select the standard OEM option (quick sets)
  2. Enter your proposed wheel & tyre values and it will tell you how far out/in they will sit and any changes to rolling diameter (speed KPH).
There is still room for variations though due to ride height, bent suspension components, camber, coilovers etc etc. But its a good place to start :)
