Whore of Babylon
have done alot of research on the V6 swap and i can tell you it is not a quick and easy conversion to undertake
John.
I disagree with you on this point John. I think it's possible for two mechanically inclined people familiar with the SW20 to have the motor and gearbox sitting in the car over a weekend. Including removal of the 3S. The most difficult part in my mind is the wiring. Wiring in the ECU and splicing into the fuse box and body loom was by far the most time consuming part of my build. This and the fabricating of the exhaust could easily be outsourced. Crossing over the coolant pipes so that it flows in the correct direction can be fiddly also. If I were to do this again I'd investigate relocating the temperature sensor to the other side of the radiator as I'm led to believe this is a better solution.
I've had the unfortunate experience of having an inexplicable problem that necessitated rebuilding the motor but this is uncommon. If it weren't for this and having to move house in the middle of the conversion it would of been very straightforward.
I'm assuming this is a 1MZ/3VZ swap the OP is asking about and I'd encourage him to atleast attempt removing the 3S and mounting the gearbox and engine. Any problems he runs into during this part can easily be problem solved through the hive mind (forums) with a few good photos and asking the right questions. Prior to attempting my engine swap the biggest task I'd ever took on was basic suspension and chassis work and it taught me a lot. Not to mention the money you save on labor can be spent on collecting a decent tool set.
