So how many of the users on this forum have a working MR2? Im talking about ones they can drive when they want without problems. It would be interesting to see who is eternally working on theirs and how many seem to have that "toyota reliability".

Im not on this list. But it is more by choice than unreliability

yeah mines fully working. no working aircon again though now. I have all these parts to put on it but don't have the time to do it. More mods just means more down time.

I've had my 1992 Gen2 turbo (178,000km.) for almost 5 years now as a daily driver. The worst mechanical problem has been replacing a clutch slave cylinder and the most expensive problem was getting the air-con fixed up properly.
If circumstances permit,I'll keep it as long as I can. And yes, I get in it and drive it whenever I want to.

There is a good saying that springs to mind here...
"If you can't afford to live without your MR2, then leave it relatively unmodified".

My MR2 is my only 'car' (I have a motorbike though), so I need it working all the time. I believe with the MR2 you can have the best of both worlds - Mid engined sports car and 'Toyota reliability' all in one.

Technically, my car "works". Although I'm still running it in, I can still drive it when I want to. I choose not to drive it frequently though, mainly because I already took it from 66k to 240k km, so it's already done its bid for king & country.

Don't put mine down as having the Toyota reliability though, those kms were eventful to say the least. But fun

My AW11 is my "sunday" car and works i would say 99% of the time I need it. It has had some electrical issues with the HKS F-con piggy back system, but that is not toyota's fault. It has had mechanical reapairs as needed - no different to any other car of similar age. Might have to jump start it occasionally - only through disuse and battery running flat (normally it is disconnected, but sometimes I forget this)

mines eternally being worked on... combination of a few screw ups by mechanics who dont know what they're doing and a long list of mods.... eg.

mechanic didn't know how to bleed the coolant lines... overheating issues lead to: waterpump, thermostats(plural) compression tests, stuck spark plug, warped head, water bore damage and a major rebuild.

mechanic uses wrong bolts on gearbox casing... leads to cracked gearbox case.

now about the only issues i have are from too much time in storage and problems with mods... needs to be run regularly for a while and i have some exposed electricals that stop the car when it rains... didn't do that before the haltec but im sure it'd be easy to fix if i could find it.

Mine's a daily and has been displaying very good reliability in the almost 4 years I've owned it.  Since its my only car, its pretty much stock but it is still enjoyable to drive and makes me smile almost everytime get behind the wheel..
