Hi everyone,
We have a local car nut here who is heading overseas in a couple of weeks to oversee the production of numerous carbon fibre creations for cars.

He has provided me with some prices for certain parts of the SW20 that might be of interest to people here:

All parts are vacuum moulded CF and are clear coated, basically ready to use
- SW20 Engine lid - $550
- SW20 Boot lid - $600
- CF race seats - around 4kg each - $1500/pair

I'm looking at getting a price from him for CF front undertrays (the ones under the radiator bar that ALWAYS disintegrate) and things like fuel cap covers, door cups/handle surrounds etc.

Production is expected to take around 6 weeks :)

Weight saved at the rear of the car is obviously good but any idea on the actual weights of the CF engine lid and boot?
I am wondering exactly how much weight could be saved, in trying to decide whether the cost would be worthwhile.
Also any idea on shipping cost?

Those under tray front panels often get hits, especially on a lowered car. How long would CF ones survive?

Would the engine lid be similar in design to the stock turbo lid or will it have massive vents and scoops on it?

Engine lid around 1kg, boot lid around 2.5kg.  The parts would be designed to look stock standard :)
I would imagine the CF undertrays would far outlast the plastic ones as they are strong enough to endure some fairly decent flex.  The guy has an RX7 and CF splitters/spoilers under it and they seem to manage fine.

The SW20 boot lid on its own weighs 7.5 kg. so you would save 5 kg by fitting the CF one.
(BTW the stock boot lid with a '90 model spoiler weighs a total of 13 kg without the side pieces)

I assume the engine lid would be a turbo one, but I don't know what the stock ones weigh.

Also are any pics available of these?

The stock turbo one is fibreglass.

Would it really be cost effective to make them out of carbon fibre, once the metal rain guard is removed it weights next to nothing...

It is a composite but its not fibreglass.
