hi guys,
just bought myself a real nice stock N/A 1993 (SW20). Just need to pick it up when RWC, etc, is done. Will post a thread describing it with photos when I get it.
 
Just a quick basic question, the fog lights don't turn on unless high beams are on as well. Is this right?
seems a little illogical to me, not really a problem, just wondering if this is a fault or not.

Yes, if the car is Australian delivered the lights are 'driving lights' and will only come on with high beam.
 
Japanese delivered cars have 'fog lights' and they can be switched on with the parking lights, low beam or high beam.

Very easy to rewire to work like jap lights, if you want.
Just a couple of connections at the light/fuse box in frunk.

The reason it is done like that is the law is the same regarding driving lights and high beams.

It is illegal and you probably will get pulled up. Which I agree with I hate people driving around with their driving/fog lights on blinding everyone. 

Is driving with fog lights only on the freeway okay? Just to save fuel

That's a bit of a furphy, isn't it? Have you ever been blinded or dazzled by someone using their low mounted driving lights? I certainly haven't.

I'm with you Groper. Joel, I think what you are talking about is aftermarket fog lights that have been installed to point up into people's eyes. Properly installed fog or drive lights are meant to be used to point down onto the road so when driving in fog, you can still see the road or in the case of driving lights, they are there to illuminate the road directly in front of you. I completely understand what you mean about idiots with their aftermarket fog lights pointed up into your eyes. Very annoying and the only reason why they have become illegal. Oly takes a few to spoil it for the rest!
