Airport limousine (bus really) is probably the best way to get to a hotel. 3000 yen, everything is close so you don't gotta carry your luggage around like for the train. Planning a trip there atm myself.

I've been in Seoul since then and plan to fly to Osaka next week, get around there, drive to Tokyo and Daikoku car park hopefully, then to Kyoto.
Dylmrt, if you could put me in contact with the drift tour operators that would be great!
Thanks for everyones input, I'm having a blast. Do start to miss driving and working on my mr2 though

Jealous! I was there last month & still have withdrawals. 2 stations away (Rinkai Line - disneyland direction) from Tokyo Teleport (Toyota Megaweb) station is SuperAutobacs (Shinonome). You'll see it across the road as soon as you get off the train. I bought my TRD gearknob there for $30 (new).

If you can rent a car, I recommend driving from Tokyo to Chiba (30-45min away). There's a good upgarage there, Crystal & Top Secret. I saw plenty of nice cars in Chiba too.

TopSecret Japan. They are "working", so try not to disturb. They're friendly, but buy a sticker or two to show your appreciation. Show much respect & let them know you drive a Japanese car too. Some AWESOME cars there. I've yet to upload my pics, but it was one the highlights of my trip.

For car rental, I highly recommend these guys. Their R35 GTR should be available again now (had a broken transmission):

They were very accomodating, whilst others don't want to do business with foreigners/tourists. For cheap car rental (they have 370Z/370GT too). Links to Toyota Rentacar too.

Have fun!

Btw, if you're arriving in Osaka, you'd drive to Kyoto first before Tokyo (it's 1hr or so out of Osaka). I recommend a JTB Sunrise day tour, as they take you to some awesome culturally rich places. I was fortunate enough to go there during Cherry Blossom, but it was very busy.

Forgot to mention, tolls are expensive. so keep plenty of cash handy & make sure you goto the green sign lane (pay booth). From Tokyo, I drove to Mt Fuji, then to Lake Ashi & experienced the best winding roads (like straight from a game) in my life. Simply input the Mt Fuji tourist centre (phone number) into the gps, then followed the road to station 5. Afterwards, followed the main road in the direction of Hakone/Lake Ashi where I found plenty of excellent roads. 370Z would be awesome for that (unless Toyota 86 is available for rent by then).

Isn't that just due to the amount of duty free smokes you were puffing on the whole time??

Cant see the Facebook (Stalkerbook) pics, don't have one of those ^&%@^ accounts.

Sound like pretty good tips Jay.

Not just that. Sake is still in my blood.

For the record, the smokes were from vending machines, not duty free.....hehe

How expensive are the tolls you talk about?
I am travelling with 3 others so hope to keep costs down that way, just trying to work out if its best to drive or take the train (I dont think the bus would be fun at all). Plan is to drive from osaka to tokyo, 4 or 5 days there then drive to kyoto. Car would be the most fun but the drop off fees are bloody expensive for the hire cars.
Thanks for all the great input everyone, everything sounds so good. Now to just organise it all!
