Hey guys
Everyone here especially me had a weird fascination on what oil is best and what oil also one has the best protection for out engines under daily driving and heavy stress wot driving

Also which oil generates the least friction/ great performance.

After hours of searching I have found a very interesting article that people using Mobil 1 may find shocking..

(Glad I use royal purple)

Anyways it's not perfect, I.e they use different weights but they use the top weight in each brand
And also there testing method is a little questionable they have put a lot of time and effort into this and the results are as follows

http://www.animegame.com/cars/Oil%20Tests.pdf

I think this is not 100 percent spot on but I think it's worth knowing and having a read.

Thanks

Thanks for the link!
As I was reading through the first half of the article I was thinking "this is pointless, the difference between each brand seems negligible", but then I got to the Royal Purple stuff and the Penrite Synthetic 5 5W-60 and I got a big shock to see the sudden jump in performance! Of course the test method has its flaws, but I guess the people who rave about Royal Purple are not just imagining things. I'll be sure to try Royal Purple or Penrite Synthetic 5 next time.

Yeah that's what I thought may have to try the penrite just based on its api standards and is cheaper

But even the pressure the oil can withstand is a huge huge difference aswell

Every test has arguable flaws so I don't really take it into consideration

To be honest I was using castrol gtx the. Repco had edge on sale so I tried that my mr2 just drank it was way to thin so I looked into it and have royal purple a crack

Noticed it made a huge difference
Quicker cold starts
Smoothed out ideling engine felt "new"
I've never put anything else in
I'm running 10/40 :)

But no problems glad someone actually read it :)

Needs to have Nulon synthetics in the test too :)

Yeah that was one they missed I noticed actually

Also surprised they didn't have like a woollies/Coles brand in there just to compare brands with no brands

god I haven't seen that article since I was an apprentice. from memory, that article was from 2005. most of the oils are different now to back then, but it was an interesting test.

gatesy, I have never seen as much oil consumption and engine failure issues as I have with castrol edge. I wouldn't use it in my worst enemies car.

Didn't realise it was that old wow
But I have searched quite extensively and that's the best I've found yet,

Yeah I know that oils have changed but royal purple has had positive effects for me even at the price to see the results from that test make me even happier that my money's going to a good product :)

And yeah I'd stay away from edge or castrol in general
It was in for two weeks and drank nearly a litre and I have no engine oil leaks
So I drained it put this in so far so good :)

My daily often burns through its oil in less than a month, so maybe I could drain the relatively new oil in my MR2 (Elf something or other) and use it to top up my daily haha. Then I would have an excuse to try Royal Purple now instead of waiting for my scheduled oil change in the MR2, which only had an oil change very recently.

Wow, that's very interesting. Never thought the brand of oil would make that much difference. I actually seen Royal Purple oil at Auto Barn the other day and it was $90 or so and I thought to myself pffffft as if lol, but after seeing that I'm going to give it a go once I get my turbo fixed.
