For myself Not even once, even with P plates. Cops let me through the RBT's all the time.

Like Flighter said, I hardly come across a cop car, since I've had my license I've seen a odd 1 per week if that.

Since I started driving 2 years ago, I've only been pulled over once, not counting RBT's, and that was in my old 280zx. I didn't even get pulled over in my S13 turbo, while still on my P's!

It'll often be because of the area you live in. Most of the cars around my place are Commodores with garbage-can exhausts. Much easier to defect when you don't even have to open the bonnet.
But even when I take it for a hard run, I don't get many looks. Generally speaking, if you don't drive like an ass in suburbia, you won't get any trouble, in my experience :)

As people have already said, MR2's do get mistaken for other cars, and I expect most officers of the law would freak out when you open the engine hatch and it's in the BACK. They could look in there and say "Yep, it's an engine" and leave it at that

Pulled over once. Like esskay I took a corner a bit quick infront of an unmarked police car.

I pulled over, turned the interior light on, showed license, breath tested and I was on my way. I think we are fortunate car owners as these cars don't have a bad reputation with the police.

Essdub you've been pulled over 4 times already since you arrived in Australia?

Yeah, they flash my rego and see [NO DRIVERS LICENCE] due to my NZ one, which is still fine.  They look at the car, comment on it and let me go...  Had 2 cops comment on how clean the car is and how it looks different lol.

I couldn't count how many times I have been pulled over. when I first started with my current employer I was getting pulled over every few weeks for a licence check breath test and get ranted at about our customers driving antics when leaving our workshop. other than that I had been pulled over a few times licence and breath tests when I first got the car, one actually went to the front of the car and requested for me to open the bonnet, and when he had a look and realised that's not where the engine was, he was too embarrassed to ask to see the engine.

Thought I'd weigh in.

Got pulled up the other day in my red '93 SW20 on Ferntree Gully Road, it's 70 there and I was clocked at 88. I don't normally speed, just kinda lost track at that stage.
I just said how the person behind me at the lights beeped me for not going when it turned green (my bad) and it was just after a down hill where he got me. I'm in my final 6 months of my P's and not had so much as a parking fine.
The cop was awesome and let me go with just a verbal (not an official) warning seeing as I had a clean record.

He argued that I looked like someone who works for my money, and the council doesn't really need the $285. When I said that I was a student, he smiled and said that I probably don't have much money to spare anyway!

He didn't really look at the car or comment on it, and was overall awesome in my opinion.
