Hi guys

Recently changed my turbo oil return/feed lines to braided 10an for the return. Install went well but upon startup after install i now have white smoke puffing from the exhaust and wont go away not even after 10min idle.

Upon inspection seems oil is seeping from the exhaust downpipe and turbo hot side between the gasket. But no where else on the lines.

Have i cocked this up?. Or has my turbo seals sudenly shat themselves? Car was running perfect before hand so im leaning towards my new parts :S

Any tips for things to be mindful of or opinions would be great

My thoughts.

Remove turbo drain pipe at sump. Start for a short moment and see if oil is coming out, immediately turn off can once inspected.
Did you use a silicon gasket maker on the turbo oil pipe to the turbo? You are only to use a fresh metal gasket, no silicon gasket maker as often squashes in when tightening and blocks the lines.

Pull dump pipe off, clean.
Inspect turbo exhaust housing.

Oil in dump pipe usually equals turbo seal / rebuild the turbo.

Some times, alternative issue, over fueling, fuel passing through engine unburnt, cleaning old oil/muck off the exhaust manifold and collecting at lowest point / join at bottom of dump pipe.

I will try that!
. Im using an oem metal gasket yes. I must be unlucky if its blown seals as like i stated it was working perfect before hand and its only doing it now :(

I might even go back to the stock setup for the return/feed lines with everything and see if it goes away. If not i will lean towards a decent ct20 to replace my 26. Know anyone selling one?

Spend some time investigating as described, before spending cash.

I have a dismantled (can be finished - just haven’t dedicated the funds to finish it) professionally ceramic coated, ported, full rebuild with 360 oil plate, new seals etc, high flow ct26. If you really need a turbo it would be around $1000 by the time it’s finished with choice of trim/wheels, as would be similar price to “new/rebuilt” options (eBay mambo, Falcon Creations / twisted motion). However don’t spend the money until you narrow the exact cause.

So i reverted back to the stock setup
And it seems to be good now :) no smoke

Pic 1 is my setup i had attached to modify.

The 2nd pic is the drain to pan attachment.upon taking it off it seemed very dry in the blue portion of the fiiting. I have a 3rd pic attached. Is the black attachment meant to have the round bit attached to the female AN or vice versa. Im thinking it might be building back somehow at this section. But theres no blockages i can see.

Id like to use what i bought. Just because it wasnt cheap.
But in the end toyota is alot smarter than me haha and i might just suck it up. And leave it

What fitting are you using on block for the oil feed out of curiosity? The stock one is a large banjo style fitting

Yeh its a banjo bolt. The feed here is a spare i had. The banjo bolt and line are still atached to the block atm.

Update. Ive gone back to stock and its not smoking as much. But back to Leaking oil from the drainline near the top turbo adaptor. And only leaking after the cars shut off.(not during at this stage) Pretty well back to square one haha because the leak is why i wanted to go braided lines in the first place.

Q: can u see a turbo seal leak from the bottom of the turbo housing. Noticed an oil drip there. Ive probably replaced 10 cars worth of drain lines taking this **** on and off again

-10an is 5/8 OD.  I do not to run a turbo return any smaller than 5/8 ID on my 4ag's.    I do not know what the stock 3sgte oil return ID is. 
 
How is length of the new line compared to stock?  It doesn't droop anywhere does it?  Also what size ID is the hole in the silver fitting you have either end?  It doesn't look any bigger than 1/2"....

The ends are 10an size. Im going to try running a 12an hose with 10an fitting ends with a 12an hose expander imputs.

I think alot of the problem was the blue and black 90degree and adaptor i had running from the pan. Originaly when i took this off there was no oil residue compared to the rest of the fittings.
