Ladies and gentlemen,

Now that my car is fixed and running smoothly again, i need to cure this boost bug that i've had for a while. The trouble is that i need to choose a turbo to suit what i want.
Basically i'm looking for something similiar to the ct20b but newer. I'm not looking for all out power at this stage, just something i can have some fun with (15 or so psi) that will hold through the rev range and will allow me to add to it later if needed. Also, would you recommend i change injectors etc with it or leave it running the standard gen 2 gear for now?

Hi Tracer,
I think that what is important is what do you really want power wise and what range of rpm would you like to be able to drive conformable.
If you want newer turbo you could use Garret 3071 that will allow you to go up to 300kw but it is not the turbo only , the standard ECU will not cope with that. So you can start with bost controller, pig back or aftermarket ECU.
Also you could start with high flow air filter and cat, exhaust system and so on.
what year is your mr2? I don't think injectors need to be changed if is later model.
To make it short, how much power would you like to have and most important, how much money are you prepare to spend.
cheers
Pan

Do you have any other mods? ?

What is your budget to do this work?
It can get expensive very quickly :)

GT3071. Disregarding discussion over supporting mods. It's a big enough turbo to be make a true difference, without being extreme or barely noticeable.

if your not after massive power and happy with low to mid 300rwhp i'd recommend a gt2860rs, nice and responsive like a ct20b and will hold boost thru to redline. i have a couple mates running these little suckers on gt4's and making 300+awhp with 20 psi and gen3 injs (also cams and programable ecu etc) he made 270hp with 16psi on run in tune.

with mr2 there is less drivetrain loss and weight to carry around so it'd make for a very nice streetable car IMHO.

all turbo's will require either and adapter to the standard manifold or a new custom manifold to be made along with water, oil and dump.

you can buy kits from the states, but their quality isn't always what you'd expect.

WOW!  Ok.  At the moment the engine is a standard gen 2, except for a trust intercooler and piping.  I'm thinking of a slow build up instead of doing everything at once and having it off the street for another month(s).  Even though i'll more than likely just drive it on the weekend, it will still be like a daily so reliability is still high.
Budget first up at the mo is around $2K give or take.  I realise that paying for the parts is one thing - the labour is another.  I've started looking at aftermarket ECU and boost controllers.  I'm not looking to add a puel pump in my boot or anything like that - although 300kw does sound nice, even 250kw would be great :)

If 250rwkw is great, than GT3071 with aftermarket ecu, EBC, intake pump etc.

not sure how the STD motor will respond to that. i'd think you'd at least want to fit a MLS head gasket and some ARP headstuds before you try to reach 250kw.

also i don't think you'll get that with standard cams. they are quite a restriction.

Haha then his 2K soon becomes 4 then 6 and so on...power is a drug.
