Thanks for the replies chaps, so far this forum have been great!, on the Nissan forums theres many ,many smart asses, flamers, morons. The seller of the MR2 I had wanted to buy messaged me again today saying some other guy offered him $9500 for it and if I can do better then he will sell it to me,ive thought about it all day and Im still undecided as its a LOT of cash for a 1990 car with no Aircon and leaky roof!.

I have to let the guy know tonight if I want it or not, Im trying to avoid buying another problematic car like the Nissan 180SX I'm trying to sell now, cause the MR2 will also be my daily ride so numerous folk so far have said Im mad to do so cause I'll end up with numerous problems that need fixing all the time like the damn nissan!?.

Though many say Toyota's are very reliable, best most reliable car I ever owned( Im now 40) was an old 1980 Corolla T18 Hatchback I loved that car and it never let me down!.I was looking at pimped Rodeo Utes " mini Trucks" I like the look but the lack of power would drive me mad I think!!?.

Keep looking
Most people say they have had a guy offer then x amount of dollars to hurry a potential buyer up

Honestly if your gut is telling you not to don't bother
There are plenty of great examples around, some far cheaper then that

I have had two different mr2s
One with two owners that had them for 8-10 years each was a targa needed a little work nothing too major (I'm 19) I managed to fix a lot myself never took it to a mechanic was a wonderful car.

And the second I have a hardtop turbo with 150 rwkw and has a few little problems as well nothing major again and nothing some tlc can't fix ad that was 5k

So shop around plenty of great examples out there
Be patient :)

Which is the car you are looking at?

Is it the White Pearl one on BBS wheels?
Pearl White one for $9300
Red Targa $8000

Finding a MR2 (Turbo) in WA is a little more difficult to find then finding one over east, and from what I have noticed they sell quickly.

Ah yes the border kitted one on 19s. Nice example. Looks like a lot of coin been put into it

I would seriously advise getting a stock body, may only be personal preference - but tracking down replacement panels are an absolute nightmare, compared to that of a Silvia.

The red kitted one above I test drove (2 years ago and was only $7000), made a funny noise under acceleration - I was since told that it most likely the heat shield vibrating, looked to be a pretty nice low km example.

Ive been looking at all those ones for a while now guys= I have a limit of $10,000 though guys most of those are a bit over that. Yes that Red Hardtop ( Link 5) is very nice but too expensive for me, at least with a hardtop I wouldnt be constantly battling Targa Leaks but the hardtops are allways too $$$ for my liking.

chase_ d  you said that particular one was $7000 previously, its now $12,500!, that noise under acceleration doesnt sound good, may well be heat shield vibration but could  be something much more sinister!?.
Still dunno if I should chance buying that Orange one, drove wonderfully but the leaks in particular water on the panel behind the seat is concerning as it's probably coming in through the quarter glass window!? not only that, if the leak has been there for a long time: which I suspect it has then surely the floor will be rusted too.

The White one in link 4, I tested on the weekend, it makes an awfull rattling noise when idling that owner says" Goes away after the car is warmed up!!?" I found that it was hard to shift gears and the clutch friction point down very low and clutch hard to push in. The owner then had a drive and shifted/ operated the Gearchanges fine, the Orange MR2 shifted a million times smoother in my opinion.

Get them checked by mechanic
Or the Nrma?
For peace of mind.

You will never find one that's perfect for under 10k unless your very lucky

Most will have something off
Whether that be leaking targa, a strange noise, bad interior, bad paint, etc

Owning an mr2 most is pure bliss and 20 percent is hell.
But you put up with it
Throw some money and time at small or big issues learn heaps along the way and really grow fond of the car you built :)

Floor probably wouldn't be rusty
Unless it soaked right through all the sound deadner.
Chances are its not rusted.

Django, don't be put off buying an MR2 just because the seals leak, at least you know this is an easy fix, better to be sure you get an MR2 with a sound engine.

My seals are still original (19 y.o.) and don't leak, but they have been looked after.

It costs about $1500 to $2000 to ship a car from over east - it may be worth buying a cheaper one from over there, as long as you have a trusted mate who can check the car over thoroughly for you.

You have to expect any car approaching 20+ y.o. will have some things to fix.......but at least you will have an awesome car!!!!
