So driving around last night heard a nice thump and a terrible rubbing sound and stopped the car to find this on the rear:
 

 
The wheel is heap of positive camber and brake pad clip dug deep into the rotor
 
Is this just the outter CV Joint or is it the whole shaft?
 
Basically car (obviously) isnt drivable and unsure who to take it to.

Probably the only thing holding the hub/wheel on was the brake caliper.
Looks like the threaded part on end of the shaft has snapped off.

Looks like you will at least need a new outer CV joint and maybe shaft too depending on damage. Any good suspension shop should be able to fix it.
Toyota like to pretend that the outer CV and shaft must be replaced as an assembly, but I believe Road and Track sell aftermarket outer CV's separately anyway.

At minimum you need a new outer CV (shaft is probably fine, just use the pipe trick to get the old CV off), but it's probably time to do that wheel bearing too! ;)
 
As far as mechanicals go, you've gotten off pretty lightly, those bits are relatively cheap and plentiful.

That looks like the shaft has sheered to me..  I've got no idea how you'd manage to do that 'just driving along'.  There is usually a 32mm nut there.

I  got it all fixed the other day.
 
What I got told had happened was a previous owner had installed the wrong hub assembly. To make it fit - they centre tapped it, this caused the bearing to fail which in turn has caused this bit (being the weakest spot) to snap

Left rear by any chance? When the bearings go on the left side they tend to spin the hub nut down tighter (as the inner races turn), on the right side they obviously back off. When i first got my car it had a buggered left bearing which required 1.5m of leverage to budge, and the thread was blued from the heat! I could easily see a failure there if it was also tampered with.
