i have just taken delivery of a aw11 sc as a project. it has a problem that i want some diagnostic help on. what happens is under acceleration in 1st and 2nd it pulls very hard then cuts fuel or ignition without warning!! almost like its overboosting and just running protection by turning off the fun!! its running an after market pully system and pushing 11psi. has anyone else had this and know what it is and how to fix it????

Edit: Sorry, thought this was an older post, looked at the wrong date (joined date, not message date). Please ignore my comment, lol.

Did you solve the problem? I have a similar issue in my sw20. Was just going to get it on a dyno for a tuning session

How high up the rev range do you get before it cuts?

It's not consistent - but it is when it's on full boost! ...

One thing is whoever had the car previously modified the SC plumbing - and there is  bolt emerging from the top of the Bypass valve thing  - not sure why this would have been installed so if anyone can enlighten me, please do so...

It may have been set up to have the 'charger clutched in all the time. In that case, the bolt will be to hold the valve in the 'supercharger' position without defaulting to 'atmospheric' as they normally do when the 'charger clutches out.

Happens only once the car has reached full operating temp
Wide Open Throttle - @ about 5500 rpm
1st and 2nd gear
on full boost.

A bit of an update..

I have flushed the coolant and refilled - did all the proper bleeds etc.. I though it may have been an air bubble against the temp sensor causing the computer do do funny things.
It actually happens at low revs - about 2500 upward it happens - not totally under WOT but it's much worse if it is WOT.
Compression tested today - all 4 are 140PSI so very happy with that...
The ABV installed is an after market one... not sure of any other details, but it has a bolt in the end with a lock nut that I presume is uses to control the bypass pressure ???? If anyone can assist with more info that would be good...

Thanks

Sounds like a cusco ABV. They were essentially modified standard ones with the bolt to adjust the preload, without having to bypass the vsv's on the system as done in the conventional abv mod. Nothing wrong with these.
