Title says it all
I have a '95 Bathurst MR2 and the accelerator pedal is sticking at the top when you have had your foot
off the accelerator for a while. This is very annoying because you are sitting at the lights, you see the light
go green, put the car in gear, ready to take off, and you nearly stall due to the accelerator being jammed.
Your choice here is to either a) leave the clutch engaged and stamp the pedal so you go flying off, or b) you
push in the clutch, blip the throttle and try again.
Overall a very tiresome job.
 
SO, how can it be fixed!? I have ascertained that it isn't the pedal or cable that is sticking, but the actual throttle
body on the motor its self. I have done the simple move of WD40ing the **** out of it, but had no luck...
 
Should i be pulling the whole thing apart? is there anything to look out for?

sounds like the cable is frayed most likely at the throttle body end of the cable and need replacing

Pull it off and have a look.
 
See if the throttle plate / butterfly is making contact with the main body, if theres gunk in there ect, or if its the shaft ect, or return springs binding up ect?

Fixed it if anyone is interested...
I simply advanced the little hex head screw that adjusts the idle.
It was too far unscrewed so the throttle was going past the point where it should stop and for some reason was getting jammed there, and made it very unreliable for take off (unless you gave it a quick blip you were more than likely to stall on take off because it was like pushing a brick wall sometimes until it quickly released).

its usually a fraying accelerator cable near the throttle body where it enters the actual cable sheath (black part)
mine doing this for over a year now, just have to blip the throttle at the lights to get it back to normal. usually gets the falcodore drivers all charged up if thyere around.
