Hi All,

I am hoping you guys can help me out. The 4AGE in my AW11 is pretty much in need of a rebuild and I'm looking into my options for it. I'm keen to keep it fuel efficient yet fun as it is my daily commute and a drive form Brisbane to Towoomba and back everyday. As such I was considering just rebuilding the stock motor, looking at comnverting to a 20v or even go to a 2ZZGE.

So the first question is which option is the better one?

The big issue here is time for me and I'm hoping someone can either help me out (happy to pay for the help) or suggest a shop in Brisbane that can help me out?

I'm also researching the same. From what I've found, 2zz is a better engine, but will require a lot more fabrication to make it fit.

It seems to mne that if I'm likely to drop $4-5k on a 20v I'd be better off dropping a little more on a 2ZZ and going down that path. but as I'm time challenged I'd need tpo know someone who can help me out with the conversion.

Thanks Domma,

My time in doing the work is the issue, have more vehicles so having it off the road is a hassle but not the end of thw world.

I'd be keen on a recommendation on which option is good for economy and a bit of fun and a local mechanic worth talking to.

I'd rebuild the original engine! Purely so you know what's in it and where you stand as far as future reliability goes. Four grand would do easy a top and bottom overhaul and even change leftover for a slightly higher comp piston set and a mild cam upgrade even. Of course there's nothing wrong with doing a 20 valve conversion either but the motor will have covered average klm's and wont know of it's service history.

the cheapest is always to fix what you own. we do 4AG's all the time and have everything in stock most of the time.
I'm currently doing a 20V AW11.
2ZZ is a nice engine and could be made to fit with lots of small custom bits. you will need a different gearbox as only a few holes line up off the 4AG one. The 2ZZ electrics are a lot more challenging. we have used several of them in conversions. have a few for sale
