Just had a quote from my local Toyota dealer for Timing belt (with tensioner) & water pump, for 92 3S-GE. With gaskets will be a bit over $550. Wondering if anyone has bought these items from the UK? The Dayco belts are OEM parts, so should be as good as genuine, Asian Water Pumps are also OEM & look to be identical to genuine. At todays Exchange rate of 1.6945 the lot would cost $153.70 including International Tracked Postage!
There are also others on ebay from Gates & Bosch, has anyone purchased any of these parts?
Any help or suggestions gratefully received.

Sq engineering, road and track or gorilla inds can also supply these bits for cheaper than dealer.

I prefer to replace the water pump complete with the housing.

Ray, I got my timing belt replacement stuff from Road and Track at much better prices than my Toyota dealer.

Also, is your car ADM or JDM?
I believe some early ADM 3SGE's (including the one in my car), and all JDM 3SGE's up to 'late '93 have a spring type tensioner. However I think ADM motors after late '90 have a hydraulic tensioner as well as the later JDM ones.
So a good idea to check what you have before ordering.
Also I would recommend you go for a genuine Toyota full water pump.

Thanks Ian, My 3S-GE is an ADM so I'll check to see what type of tensioner it has. Are the Belts, tensioners & water pumps from Road & Track genuine Toyota parts? Also I note that mine has a 178 tooth belt later ones have one tooth difference.
Haven't got the harmonic balancer off yet, I have to borrow & breaker bar from a friend; when I clicked the starter motor to break the thread seal my little Sidchrome bar bent 45 degrees. I had already tried my rattle gun but as the crank shaft is not locked it just absorbed the impacts. I am also going to do the cam shaft gaskets while I have it all stripped down, as well.
This job has to fit in with my regular work so I may be a while before it's back on the road again. I will keep you informed as to my progress.

Ray, there's a little inspection port on the bell housing, on the ring-gear line (if you can understand that description)  Find a suitable beefy flat screwdriver or short lever, or some such device, and use this to lock the ring gear.  Then find a STRONG breaker bar and a corresponding length of steam pipe to slip over the breaker bar.

Somewhere in the dim dark ages I had a thread about this particular bolt - worked on an SW where both of my rattle guns, and Craigs super-dooper overclocked godzilla gun wouldn't shift.  Ended up having a 2 metre bar.  The bolt saw sense, and let go with a hell of a bang!  Turn out that a previous "technician" had found the need to use what looked like Honda thread locking compound on the thread AND the mating face of the bolt.

Best of luck!

A '92 ADM 3sge should have a hydraulic tensioner.
(BTW, if you ever have to compress them to re-fit the pin, you can do it in a vice, but only tighten VERY slowly so as not to damage them).

I got a genuine Toyota water pump, and tensioner, along with a Gates timing belt from R and T, but you would have to ring them to find what they would sell you. BTW, better to phone them rather than to email.

Also maybe a good idea to check your belt rollers too.

AS Dennis says you may need to chock the ring gear so you can use a breaker bar to remove the pulley nut.
I suppose you would know to only use a 6 sided well fitting impact type socket.
Good luck with that 'cos they sometimes can be VERY tight even without threadlocker.

Thanks Dennis & Ian, the good news is I was able to get the bolt on the crankshaft to undo, it had a fair bit of thread sealer as it took a one metre long breaker bar to shift it. Then when I went to pull off the harmonic balancer I found the threads on my puller bolts were not metric. I picked up a couple of metric ones from Bunnings yesterday & they have done the job.

Wow!!  Congratulations on getting it off.
Now the rest should be easy, lol.

Why do "technicians" feel the need put thread locker on that bolt?
The service manual quotes 80 ft/lbs of torque needed with no mention of using thread locker.
