hey guys, just did an engine swap on my mr2. I went from a gen2 3sge to a gen3.
So far its been a bit of a headache, with everyone hooked up the car will turn off after 5 seconds. My friend thinks this has something to do with the wiring on the Engine cooling fan control module. Has anyone had any related problems? does anyone have a wiring diagram that will show me how its supposed to be wired in relation to the coil?

Not sure how the cooling fan module can kill the motor?
 
Did you swap over the engine loom from the gen3?  Have you checked the wires in the engine bay fuse box on the body side, to make sure power is fed to all the systems in the engine loom?  On mine I needed to provide power to the ignition circuit, but in my case it didnt have a spark and did not fire at all.  
 
Is your fuel pump circuits all wired up properly?  You could have a scenario where the fuel pump is active when cranking, then turns off, leaving enough pressure to idle for a few seconds then die.
 
You can temporarily power the fuel pump non stop via the check connector.

yes i swapped the gen 3 engine loom over.

for the engine bay fuse box we just put power to the coil. everything else looks ok.

fairly sure its a spark related issue.
 
At the moment, the spark stops after about 5 seconds. Its feeling like it is directly related to the engine cooling fan, If we completely disconnect the temp sensor on the engine lid, the car seems to run fine. not sure if someone has messed with the wiring beforehand, or if we need a gen3 cooling fan module? given that we just completed an engine swap from a gen2 3sge, and we are using the old cooling fan module that sits next to the ECU. any suggestions?
 

Cant be 100% confident, but pretty sure the gen3 engine bay fan module is different, perhaps that is causing it?
 
When everything is working normally, if you unplug the temp sensor on the engine bay lid, the IC fan will run continually when ignition is on.

If i unplug it from the engine lid, the car runs fine. so clearly theres a problem there.
 
 

The temp sensor goes directly to the cooling fan computer then to the cooling fan. If it's like every other toyota it will have a single wire to tell the ECU that it's on/not working, but that would just throw a code not kill the ecu. Sounds like someones screwed with the wiring.

When you did they swap, did you also swap over the Engine Cooling Fan ECU? Although they look identical, there not!
The Gen II Cooling fan operates completely independent of the Engine ECU.
 
In the Gen III, the Engine ECU has an override wire, so it can operate the cooling fan, independent of the Engine Bay Temp sensor.
 
The car will still work with either of the Cooling Fan ECU's. I've done a Gen II 3sgte to Gen III 3sgte swap and the only Pin I had to changeover was the relay for the Fuel pump. I also had to Ground one of the Engine ECU pins to stop it thinking it was under high electrical loads (Defogger ON or headlights ON) and raising the idle speed.
 
Being that you came from a NA, there may be more re-pinning required.
