Hi Reddtarga,
Please excuse my impertinence.
My reading of BGB shows 4.2 litres for E153 Transaxle ?

Correct,  the turbo box takes 4.2 liters.
I was thinking about my S54 that only takes 2.6 liters.

The last lot I think I paid about $28 per quart bottle  (946 ml)
So you'll need 3 bottles, and have a bit left over for the next change.

Yes, fully synth.

Thanks!
So how does it compare to other fluids you've used?
I think my 3rd gear synchro is not the best...

Reverse will crunch no matter what,
It dosnt have. Synchro
So you have to be practixly dead stopped to change into it without crunching also don't try and get into reverse like your changing gears at a racetrack, nice and easy into reverse
I've had three jap cars and all had that problem
Found out they didn't put synchros in the reverse gear.

Don't bother getting one synchro, it will be like 3-500$ just for the synchro
If you get it fixed
Have it fully rebuilt with strengthend synchros and bearings
If your going to bother, if not try amsoil good **** that stuff
Or caltex easy shift
Good luck

anyone know wethere this amsoil stuff will clog up the box like the redline does
i have to change my oil soon cause of the nice Mechanical LSD i have so contemplating on the amsoil to see what its like
Ian whats your thoughts after using it?

MR Turbo.
All I can say is that with the Amsoil MTG, my gearbox has free shifting with no crunching either cold or hot.
Shortly after I got the car I put in a fairly expensive synthetic GL5 oil, but found that I got blocked selection on 3rd gear after a hard run. After filling with the Amsoil, after a while that problem went away.

"Clog up the box"?
If you mean a slimy buildup on synchros, a GL4 shouldn't do that anyway, it doesn't have enough EP additives.
I've never used Redline oil and I don't know anything about mechanical LSD's.
What does Google say about the best lube for them?

Mechanical LSD relies on the oil in the gearbox to work, unlike the factory viscous LSD which is sealed and has its own oil/paste built into it,
For the mechanical LSD If the oil is not slippery enough it will shudder and chatter a lot when cornering or doing slow speed parking  etc
If the oil is too slippery the gearbox synchros wont engage like they should or will crunch etc. so the oil has to be a happy medium for both ( which is a PITA to figure out) ist a lot of trial and error
I have mine ok atm but after hard runs the shifting gets a bit notchy, and I would like to eliminate that.
I am using the NULON synthetic gearbiox oil atm , but might change to amisoil or redline to see if it makes any difference.

Side note: If you have LSD in the turbo box, 4 quarts is enough to fill it.

I had the same LSD chatter issue in prior MR2, tried a few oils and eventually a fully synthetic Mobil oil did the trick, great shifts and no chatter.

Cheers

Often have to add a friction modifier with plate type LSD. Redline my-90 doesn't clog up the box. Its a 75w-90 gl4 fluid. I think your thinking about shock proof. Contrary to what people are saying here I think the later model boxes may have a synchro on reverse. Early boxes definitely don't.

There ya go
Didn't know about later models with synchros just knew about rev 2 and earlier ones

And yeah I knew one clogged up your box.

Thanks for clearing that one up
