Hi There,
Is anyone else old enough to remember that this sort of thing was also done with Mini Moke back in 1960s.
May almost have been semi official from BMC in the day.
My recollection is that both Clutches & Transmissions were linked together, but they had some fairly serious crashes when gear changes between front & back got out of sync.

Sadly I am "mature" enough to recall the Twini.  I seem to remember it having a good go at killing its designer/builder (John Cooper) when a steering link at the rear broke whilst testing, and it decided to turn headon into bridge support.  Thankfully although the car didn't make, Mr Cooper did.

Keep up with the times Dennis!
They have also just done a reversal of this project, they took the ass of an AW11 and welded it into a FX16 Corolla and called it The FX32

I have a confession to make.  I have considered something similar, not the melding of two vehicles, but transplanting a FXGT front end into an AW front.  It would require a subframe, and some massaging of panels, and a humpy bonnet, but the tape measure tells me that it would fit.  To avoid the gearbox synchronisation issue probably need to have an auto in one end and a manual in the other, or maybe two auto's?

Who's up for a challenge, who do I know with more doorstops than anyone else ? ? ?

Let's not get carried away, road legal I think not.  No, more an interesting hillclimb and sprint vehicle.

Shall I whisper to you about how a 2009 Subaru Impreza EJ25 motor will fit between the towers in the rear of an AW11...

Hmmm, but usual problem of having a gearbox hanging out the tail lights.

Solved by going to a Porsche 944 transaxle (LSD). Short enough to stay under the boot.

or...........

****ize a Porsche 968 Tiptronic auto by tossing the torque converter in a skip, adapting flywheel/clutch to suit motor and gearbox, then setting up an external pump to drive the transmission pressure circuits (power steering pump?).  Short enough to probably stay mostly in the engine bay.
