Thanks Flighter,
Good reading.

I have bled the brakes a third time and they are working perfectly fine now.

I will have to agree with a big braking kit doesn't improve your braking distance. But I knew that may have been the case before I purchased it. I upgraded because it was only a little bit more than the costs of rebuilding the standard brake system. Plus I get bigger rotors and some bling 4 pot calipers.

Funny how the article does not mention calliper flex and the like. Once again more to it than just what is written.

Repeatability is obviously the main thing with better brakes.

Having just fitted a BEAMS driveline to my BMW E30 i can tell you the brakes are MINT for one stop.........

Forget about anymore repeatable stops after that though hahaha.

Not a flame war Flighter, it is good that people actually look further into things than just buying off the shelf items.

FYI I used stock brakes with EBC red pads in my ST185 at the last MR2 Challenge event and my EVO mate couldn't believe how late and hard I was braking with them, and they didn't fade once.
The only actual benefit you'll get with upgrading brakes to a larger size and/or calliper on a road car is that they look better!
All you need to do is make sure your rotors aren't worn out, your callipers aren't seized or leaking and that you have good pads and fresh fluid.

After reading Admin's response, I went looking for EBC Red Pads info, & found Rotors & Drums Australia website.
www.rdabrakes.com.au
They also have some interesting Technical articles on brakes & braking.

When I sat in the car below.

The owner explained to me that he had tried all different pad combinations.
Also upgraded on this and his daily driver to Supra Calipers and Rotors on the front which he found to be better, but one of the Luffs drove his car and smoked the brakes after 3 or 4 laps.
In the end he upgraded to AP Racing on both this and his street car.

I do like how he actually went, and tried different things.

I see a lot of people in general who have tried one method and quick to dismiss everything else as a waste or not as good. Kinda like giving reviews and criticism on a movie you havent watched I think.

The owner of that car, went every week or every two weeks to wakefield. If you dont take your car track that often then probably no need.

Also bare in mind money was not an obstacle for him. So while he has the time and money to find the best combination money has to offer, most people dont. However I took his advice, after he drove my car and the ABS kept on clicking off on hard braking after 4 or so laps. He told me if I was serious to take his advice.

Just saying.

Do what is right for your needs and within your budget. Plenty of people here have tried lots of different things so identify what you need, then you can figure out what you have to do.

I think the reason why people post on the forum is so they don't have to go through the pain and expense of trying different combinations. They are after advice so they can get it right the first time without wasting money. No point reinventing the wheel each time. The hard thing is peoples advice will vary because there car might have different power to others, wheel sizes, tyre type etc... and in general people have different opinions of what performance is. With the above you haven't mentioned what size supra rotors he was running what series of caliper he was running. Even swapping to AP calipers doesn't say a lot as they make a lot of different calipers and rotors.
Would be good to see before and after comparisons of lap times.

I have a video of the owner driving that car at Oran park, then a professional driver. The comparison would be like all of us versus a pro driver.

He was a bit of a hack though.

Bumping instead of starting another thread.

I'm embarking on the nissan upgrade at the moment. Trying to find the correct 1" master cylinder to suit. I've found 2 but unsure whether they are correct.
JB1878 from 88-91 hilux/4runner

JB1882 from 91-93 hilux/4runner.

A lot of images I find are generic and show the outlet ports on the wrong side.

If anyone can clarify that would be great. I find plenty of mention of using 4runner/hilux but no specific year/model or part number.
