Thanks Jeff.

Anyway, just when things were looking promising, I took the car for a quick drive last week for the first time on the street in over 6 months, and of course my driver side power window decided to break at that very moment! I've been told it's probably the regulator guide rails for the window, I'll find out soon.
I also noticed some tuning issues while driving it, but that will be sorted out in time.

Just to rub salt into the wounds, I got some much more frustrating news today.

Back in February I renewed the rego on my MR2 over the phone. They said there was a 'data error' or something, but by the end of the phone call they said that they had sorted it out and renewed my rego, and it was charged to my credit card. I was a bit worried by the initial 'data error', but I forgot about it after a while and moved on.
Anyway, a few weeks ago I noticed that you can do a free rego check online at myRTA, so I did it just out of curiosity, and it said something like 'there is an inconsistency with RTA records', and at that point I started to get a bit more worried.
So, I just visited the RTA for some clarification. It turns out that a previous owner of my MR2 obtained a fraudulent engineers certificate when it was imported. As a result of all this, I have 3 months to get the car fully legalised and certified or my rego will be suspended
It was inevitable that I would need to get it engineered eventually, but I can't put it off any longer. I'm sure I'll be able to get it engineered, I'm just dreading the hassle and extra cost!
Fortunately most of my engine mods (where I've spent most of my money) should be legal. The BOV is plumbed back, the catch can is plumbed back, the boost control valve has nothing going straight to the atmosphere, there is no screamer pipe, the intercooler pipes are bolted to the firewall properly, etc.
I may have to get an emissions test and a noise test, so that would be a big hassle, but I think the biggest hassle will be the brakes and wheels. I may have to ditch the front brakes, and I'm not sure about the wheels.
I'll be organising to have an RTA engineering signatory inspect the car ASAP.

That's relatively disheartening news mate. I guess it's at this point you should be glad you went to the effort/cost to have everything done properly :).

So does the Engineering have to be done by the RTA or it can be any certified person? With TMR getting mods engineered is quite an easy process so hopefully it's a smooth process for you! the scariest one will be the emissions! All the mechanical mods have been done so professionally the I reakon you shouldn't have any issues.

Yeah I'm glad that all the mechanical work in the engine bay has been done properly, so I shouldn't have to change much in that regard and waste my money.

The brakes and wheels are a concern, there is a good chance that I'll have to change the front brakes at least. They were already on the car when I got it, but I do love them and it would be sad if I had to remove them. If it turns out that I do have to change the front brakes, at least there are well-documented alternatives, like DeltaV's offering.

I don't know about other states, but in NSW there are various people who have the necessary accreditation to be included on the RTA's list of engineering signatories. In other words, the RTA don't do the certification themselves, they just specify who is allowed to provide engineering certificates, and when you register your vehicle you may have to show any applicable engineering certificate/s for the vehicle.
I'll have to choose an engineering signatory (eg. Consulmotive), have them inspect the car, then they will tell me what I need to change or add to make the whole car compliant, then they will provide the engineer's certificate for all modifications.

Goodluck mate. Bad luck!

Whats wrong with the brakes? Couple guys here run willwoods (the newer style) and they have had no trouble getting over. (Although the reason they had to go over was for a 'defect notice').

Wheels would only be the only issue. That MR2 (come Farrari Replica) thats for sale at the moment has this:

" Wheels: ROH 3 piece 'Modena' alloy wheels, 7 inch on the front, and 8.5 inch on the rear. The speedo has been re-calibrated as required by the ADR's and 'Engineer' approved. "

Maybe that could be an option?

I didn't fit the Wilwoods so I really don't know. I'm not sure if they have dust boots or not, but I've been told it's illegal to have no dust boots.

Small update.
Consulmotive and MRC have had a chat about my car, and I talked to MRC myself today.
Consulmotive haven't looked at the car in person yet, they have only talked to MRC over the phone to determine what things need to be sorted out before having the car inspected in person.

Here are some details of what needs to happen (so far):
- As I suspected, there are no side intrusion bars, so I need to source those so MRC can fit them...does anyone know where I can get a kit for this?
- I do have to get it emissions tested (there was no mention of the ECU to Consulmotive yet, but the different intercooler setup was enough to require an emissions test anyway - so once it passes emissions we'll hopefully get Consulmotive to specify that it has passed with an aftermarket ECU too).
- A 'Euro 4' cat (very restrictive but very good at catalysing) will be fitted by MRC for the emissions test, and with any luck that will also reduce the exhaust noise enough to pass a noise test.
- Apparently I need tyre placard, I don't know exactly what that entails (Consulmotive haven't seen or been made aware of the wheels and brakes yet).
- I need an emissions label thingy.

Also, unrelated to the engineering certification, but equally urgent, I need a driver's side power window regulator...can anyone help me with that? MRC will be contacting me soon to let me know exactly what I need for this.

It recently occurred to me that my car has been 'off the road' (more or less) for a little over a year now, so I'm certainly looking forward to sorting out the engineering certificate and getting the car back in my own garage once and for all.
MRC have fixed my power window (which was an annoying interruption to the engineering process), but they are too busy to do anything else for a few weeks unfortunately.
I've got an emissions label and tyre placard organised, so I need to sort out the intrusion bars next. Then I'll worry about emissions, etc.

ouch. really sorry to hear about your bad luck!

I love so much about this car. your front brakes are sex... they make me want to get some!

so much about this car is just the way I think mr2s should look :)

Hope you can get it sorted relatively cheaply.  having to get it engineered though sounds really expensive! :(

Thanks heaps mate! I miss the fuzzy feeling I get every time I get out of my MR2 and turn around to look at it as I walk away
The engineering will be expensive, but if I told you how much I've spent already you would see that the engineering is a relatively small price to pay.
