I was wondering the same thing, but I trust my mech's judgment. I'm totally hypothesizing here, but maybe it's for one or more of these reasons:
- To handle any slight misalignment that may have occurred when the wastegate pipe was welded to the dump pipe
- To handle slight distortions caused by the high temperature of the exhaust system
- To allow some movement when/if the turbo is removed in the future (this is probably the most likely reason)

I would agree with those statements aswell. My turbo kit also has the flex section. Probably helps with the different metals expanding at different rates.

are you planning a heat shield for the exhaust manifold?

Most of the photos on the first page of this topic were taken by my mate with his high quality expensive camera and lenses. All the other photos were taken by me (a hopeless photographer) with my camera phone haha.
Thanks though!

*EDIT* More recently I had no choice but to cover up the beautiful exhaust manifold with a heat shield, because nearby hoses were almost melting :-(

Here we go, the engine is in!

Oil cooler and remote oil filter setup:

I have a slightly unrelated question. I've noticed that alot of the engine bays in pics on this forum don't have the X brace across the top of the engine bay...is this for the sake of nicer photos, or do most people remove this permanently? When fitting an aftermarket rear strut brace does it replace the stock X one?

Anyway, enjoy the photos!

I dont really have an answer for the brace out side of something should be there.
The guys have done a fantastic job for you. They really are a pro shop.
It looks good enough not to drive! Just drink beer and look at it for a few weeks.
Well done Rob

in regards to the brace, i dont see why it couldn't be placed on top?
i personally would put it on top of an aftermarket brace, but thats my opinion?

+1 on top of the aftermarket brace.

Make sure braided lines are not going to rub anywhere as they are VERY good files.
Don't forget to put the dipstick back in :P

Is the Drivers side HE water hose missing the IC pipe bracket edge?

+1 looks good
