Be careful as there isn't much room available for ring lands as it is.
Can alter rod length but that can be another bunch of tricks too.

I believe so. I have to do more research.

ATS Racing do a 2.3L short block. They don't say what combination of parts and machining they do to achieve it though. Prob a machined 5s crank as you mentioned with standard size 3s rods and custom pistons in a 5s block.

If you have the budget, space and an understanding enough other half have you thought about getting another SW to be a bit more experimental with and keeping your current one they way it is?
 
A bit extreme for some, depends on how far the mr2 thing gets into you and what is possible. 
 
I guess you have another daily car anyway but i'm always of the thought that more is more.

Besides, as much as I love MR2s, I've never wanted more than one. I'd rather focus all my efforts on one to make it as close to perfect as possible.

I just dropped by Advance Motor Mechanics again and discussed it with them. I'll be sticking to the ~2.2L option to avoid the added risks of going 2.3L.

I agree - 2.2L block sounds like the best plan. Tried and tested. 

At the end of the day, you want to make the same/slightly more power with the same/more reliability.

Still no update on the engine. The car is still on the hoist at Advance Motor Mechanics waiting for the engine to be removed ASAP. They've just been too busy lately. It's no big deal at this stage, as I'm saving money in the meantime.

So I just ordered a set of Kumho V70A semi slicks for only $800, which I'll put on my 17 inch track-only rims to replace the Federal 595 RSRs (that is, after I get my car back, whenever that may be).
I think the Kumho V70As have the same treadwear rating as the Yokohama Advan A050s, so they should be extremely grippy.

Great tyre deal. That's where I got mine from that I used at the last WPC.
