Hi,
recently I ordered some RDA pads through eBay from a Melb distributor. One pad on each side has a lug that protrudes on the back of the pad, off-centre. The anti-rattle spring plates clip to an edge of the pad and to this lug. The other pad uses the opposite edges like every other pad I've seen. Well the diameter of the RDA lug is about 3mm and the one in the car (I presume it is stock) is about 5mm, so the plates don't attach to the pad and fall off.
 Has anyone experienced this before?  Perhaps I need anti-rattle plates with a smaller hole ??.
I spoke to Toyota and because the car is an import, they don't have a listing for these parts and I fear paying up front for a new pad, just to find the new ones have the same small lug ?? Maybe I should be sourcing different anti-rattle plates ?
 Any suggestions ?  Is there a good wrecker in Sydney that I can try ??

Hey 'TwoDogs' - what are the pad part No.s you received?  They should be same as any of the Sw20 models for rear, from memory they should all be DB1260.  It was only the front they changed in the later models, but 1989 - late 1991 was DB1227, 1992 onwards when to DB1352.

Sorry to be late with this response.
When I replaced rear pads recently, I found that my anti rattle plates had a larger hole than the pin on the pad, which had allowed the ar plate to move & cause one pad to wear more quickly than the other.I reckon the difference is that Turbo models & later N/A have different brakes to the earlier N/As.
The Turbo & later N/As have pads with the larger diameter pin to suit the anti rattle plate.
I reckon that I have kept some details at home. Will check during weekend.

 I ordered another pair of pads(Bendix) from a different mob on eBay by using the correct part number as Carmikey suggested DB1260. The first mobe didn't quote the number, just 1990 SW20 so you'd think it has to be the same thing...anyway the 1260s arrived and have the larger lug on the back and my 15 yr old fitted the plates and put them in the callipers last night. Today after sport he will get under the car and we can flush the brake fluid and adjust the handbrake. Then we move on to painting the wheels.
We need to get the MR2 finished and on the road so I can take my Camry off and work on it.
He is loving his car and can't wait to get his L's.  I can't wait till he is gets his P's. He is not allowed to drive the MR2 then, so what rotten luck, I'll have to drive it for a couple of years. Damn.

Hi Carmikey, to look at it is certainly nothing special, i'm more interested in showing Stephen how things work. HE cares more about the look. The car was delivered from Warnambool to Syd, registered, so no major engine work needed, yet. Stephen doesn't like the colour and he can save up for a respray.
Basically it is a standard factory turbo import, painted yellow, 4 17x8 rims and lowered stock(?) springs.
Inside there is a cute steering wheel and a nice stereo. That's sums it up.
 So far we (and I mean Steve - 15 yrs old) have reconditioned and painted the calipers, brakes bled and adjusted 100% (although untested). 2 Wheels straightened, previous owner mentioned a shake at freeway speeds. Rims currently being painted satin black. When they are back on, next will be intermittent alternator issue which is most likely worn brushes, so we'll have a go at stripping it. (Most people couldn't be bothered and buy a reco but this will teach Steve about coils, magnets, electricity etc.)
 A major expense will be coilovers, but looking forward to that and working out wheel clearances to investigate whether the rear wheels can be stepped out or not, since standard MR2s don't have 4 rims of equal width. That's about it. Should be ace when it's done and Steve is doing 90% of the spanner work.

Looks like a great car to start with. Hopefully you'll start a showroom thread so we can all see what you do with it. As I'm hundreds of kms from any other MR2's, the only way i see what people are doing is on this forum. Its always great to see how the cars progress over time. Even little improvements inspire me to do more with my car.

The early turbo and NA's use exactly the same brakes (pads/rotors)
Post 11/91 SW20's used the larger brakes, however the rear pads are the same on early and later models, even though the later models use larger rotors. 
 
If you want stuff to fit properly get genuine Toyota.
My car is an early model and I just bought a full set of genuine Toyota pads, from Lithia Toyota for only $82 USD !
Rear (0446617090) and fronts (0446517060) 
Worked out pretty cheap even with shipping costing $65 USD.
