I've got a real dilemma, I'v got limited funds, and want to get new wheels and tyres (i'm not fond of the standard wheels on the 97 SW20), but there is a really nice mr2 Beams half cut on ebay atm.
I was planning on doing the Beams upgrade down the track and focusing on wheels, tyres and suspension in the immediate future. I can't afford to do both :(
But i gather that Beams SW20 half cuts are pretty rare?
What do i do???

In my opinion if the half cut is in good condition and it wont hurt the bank. Then I would go the half cut as they are rare to come by! Wheels/tyres can be done whenever. I did exactly that last year; choosing my half cut over suspension as it was being sold for an unreal deal and they arent a dime a dozen.

Halfcut will keep you busy until you can afford new tyres

Installing half cut components will be much more interesting and rewarding than a set of wheels & tyres :)

My vote half cut

+1 halfcut, BEAMS MR2 halfcuts will become more expensive/rare, where as wheels will generally get cheaper

While I think it is a bit silly to a conversion just to have another NA engine, have to agree with everyone else that getting the halfcut would be better

Wow, the response is pretty unanimous lol.
The reason i want another NA engine (Beams) is the same reason we all wanted an MR2 to start with...It's something unique and special, it may not be the fastest or best car in the world, but they are getting more uncommon every day. I could have bought a Toyota 86, but they are everywhere these days, and as great as they are they still lack the soul that the MR2 has (no disrespect to 86 owners, they are still an awesome car and they prove Toyota still has the ability to produce excellent sports cars). The Beams is just an extension of that - rare, unique and special in its own way.
I did consider going down the turbo route, but i had a 98 WRX Sti 10 years ago, and while i loved it i have aged since then and like the feel of the NA engines responsiveness. I'll consider supercharging in the future if funds allow, but i'm not interested in huge power or 1/4 mile times or bragging rights - i'm getting a bit old for that lol.
I have a huge respect for people that go down that path, for the enthusiasm, dedication and passion they have for their cars. I'm constantly amazed by the variety of ways that people personalize their cars to suit their own desires.
I might not want to do the same things as other people, but i really like the support that other MR2 owners have given me and each other, and i value their opinions greatly.

Thank you all :)
