Hey guys!

Need some  input or related experience with the following please:

What will have to be done if one wishes to change engines from gen1 to gen3 (3SGTE) WITHOUT changing the entire wiring harness?

Is this possible? If not, what are the differences between harnesses?

P.S. Aftermarket management will be used (piggyback)

Thanks in advance!

The sw20 only came with a gen2 gte.

If your fitting a gen3 engine but dont have the wiring harness for it you can use the old gen2 loom and fit a patch harness or repin the ecu plugs to suit the gen3 ecu along with running extra wires for the air intake temp sensor etc.

Do you have the piggy back ecu already? If not id suggest using a haltech sprint ech instead. Theyre only 1k.

Have you got the gen 3 engine harness at all?

If you have the gen 3 engine harness you can mate this up to a Gen 1/2 body loom easy enough. Just a matter or re-pinning some of the wires. If your adapting a Gen 1/2 Engine loom there is a little more work involved, but it can be done.

Thanks for the input...

I might be able to get my hands on the harness and gen3 ECU but at a nasty cost....so I am considering my options first....so thanks again for the info.

Can the Gen1/2 ecu and harness, with an aftermarket management system (piggyback), be hooked up to the gen3?

Or is the Gen3 ECU a MUST HAVE?

You could, but I highly advise against it. Piggy back adjustment of fuel on a gen2 ecu to run a gen3 would be far from optimal.

What piggyback are you planning to use? Will it allow removal of the air flow meter?

I've got a Gen3 body loom you can have for cheap if you want to do the complete wiring swap.

I will be using a local, proven brand of piggyback which has various models...the middle to top of the range has very fine tuning adjustments....have used it before and worked very well..not sure if it will be known/heard of in OZ....it is called DICKTATOR: http://www.dicktator.co.za/products.html
Why would the air flow meter need to be removed?

 thanks for the responses

Eric
Air flow meter is restrictive and clunky. Upgrading to a MAP sensor is well worth it. Most standalone computers have the ability for this expansion

Thanks for all the info....gonna go with aftermarket management, similar to what I am using at the moment....with more upgrades and mods
