In preparation for the MTC, I have been breaking my balls these last 2 weeks getting the car ready. I have a sh*t load to do and I leave tomorrow at 4am to catch the boat to Melbourne. My water temp gauge has stopped working and I have zero time for trouble shooting. Can someone point out the likely culprits for this? Thanks

Have you checked the obvious for wire connection at the sender unit? There are two senders, one for the gauge, one for the ecu.

You could also ground the gauge sender wire and see if your gauge moves. This will confirm wiring to the gauge is ok. Also measure the resistance of the sender unit and see if it is in spec. this will confirm if it's the sender unit that is faulty.

You will have to so some trouble shooting to find what is causing the issue. The above are quick and easy to do.

Stock temp guage? Surely fitment of an aftermarket one would be better esp for a track vehicle.

resistance of sender is 4.25 with multimeter setting at 20k, anyone know if thats in spec?

As above, earth the wire and see if the gauge goes up.

Good point. I understand the factory gauge shows a temp of "half" over a temp range, which is not ideal.

Couldn't agree more.Installed my new radiator. Few laps on the track and very happy as the factory gauge showed "half" for the whole period. Slow down lap and the needle climbed out the roof and the motor was whistling like an old fashioned steam kettle. (Dreaded air lock now remedied). Three real readings only on the factory gauge. COLD  NORMAL  TROUBLE.

My next purchase is a set of decent gauges (after having been sayng this for 12 months).

Where did you install the sender unit for the aftermarket temp gauge?

Cheers
