Whats the damage like on the isolator?

Do you really need to cool down the electrics or is it just because?

Looks great B.
I was thinking of the heat from the PCU a few weeks back. It certainly looks like you will be ready for some endurance races.
Funny enough, I am on the list to run a few events at a new track to be built in NSW where I will be running some decent endurance races with open class racing. Chances are, you car and the track should be ready around the same time!
Will you be running a system where you can transfer data back to the pits each lap? I know the Mazda guys at B12hr had a system where they could send back telemetry of a lap as they passed the receiver they set up in their garage. It was only capable of transfer of small amounts of data but I believe there must be a way to use current 3G or 4G tech to transfer data in real time. Certainly with all these new apps available you must be able to watch a data stream in real time via a mobile device.
Are you fitting a steering wheel potentiometer to compliment the brake and accelerator? Could be handy for driver training. It is something I would like to look at once mine is up and running.
I to have a isolator but its a Jaycar special. I am sure it will be enough as the wiring system is not experiencing half the load of a street car.
I see you still have the brake bias lever. Are you going to fit non power assist brakes, dual cylinders, adjustable bias as I have done? If not, you will have to fit your pressure sensor after that lever. It is also a well proven way for brake adjustment.
What are you doing for radio? Are you fitting a CB unit or just running hand held radio with a power supply.
Are you making allowance for cool suit for longer races in hot environments? Very handy for 30 minute plus events like 6 hour regularities, 300km races.
Will you have a high beam button on the steering wheel? Another handy addition when passing slower traffic and tormenting people you are battling for track position.
Have you 'bitten the bullet' with the fuel surge system we were chatting about?

Thats my plan, while most of my cars use will no doubt be sprints and club days, my cars build is aimed at endurance.

As you know i have all the Motec gear, can download very fast when in the pits or garage ect, but yes, at some stage the plan is to the Motec telemetry, which is the same as used in V8SC ect, so its a radio / modem device, is constant connection, most places.

Yes i will be fitting a pot for steering angle, will be a rotary pot, the 2 wheel belt driven type, in the cabin off the steering column.

Yes i am running a pedal box, Tilton like yours with 2 AP Racing masters for the brakes (front & rear) with balance bar.
I have there a bias adjuster for the balance bar and the AP racing proportioning valve.
When the car is all running i prob wont require the proportioning device but seeing as everything is new, ie pedal type, ratio, masters, rotors, calipers ect, there will be ALOT to setup and change, alot of info will come from data logged but obvioulsy i need to adjust alot to get it right, so rather have alot to adjust from my seat then go back to pits, hop out, adjust stuff, wait till next session, warm up car, brakes, tires ect same temp to see if the change is right or not.

The balance bar on the pedal when adjusted is pretty much fixed, ie when adjsuted to be say 60/30 it will be a similar ratio hard braking or soft.

The proportioning valve is also fixed ratio, (this one 0.325) what you adjust is at what input pressure that fixed ratio comes in, so light braking  its 1.1, bit harder maybe still 1.1 but then very hard the output (rear brakes) is reduced pressure.

I have a Kenwood commercial portable (handheld) radio which is on the floor on that carbon tray, has external antenna (middle of my roof) and has adaptor for wiring from my helmet (speaker and mike) and external PTT button (steering wheel)

I have a few of these radios i use for work so have my own private frequency's (few ppl would have seen or used them at some of the track days ive helped out at)

I will be running a repeater with an antenna on a mast at larger tracks

I would recommend portable (handheld) radios over hardwired mobile (truck CB style) units, as if you cut the elec isolator or have batt or wiring fault, it will still work. but yeah external roof mount antenna.

I have a cool suit dry ice box now but is only helmet air, i have nto yet got cool suit or pump for water yet, may do down the track.

Yes, i have a headlight flash button on the wheel.

No havent done any fuel stuff yet, exept whats in the boot, but still aiming for a custom ATL bladder in the original location, unsure if i will use 2x 3" dry breaks for refueling yet, sill thinking i may use 2x -12 Staubli dry breaks under the front bonnet, for clean safe refueling via hand pump on a drum, all depends on how many in-race refueling event i will do, even then most have a minimum re fuel time like 5 mins

PM sent.

A little airflow over the PDM, even Cosworth suggests over the isolator too, is recommended, its only a very small amount of air coming down that 1 tube, and that tube is very very light and is just off that 1 fan, so im not adding a while fan just for the electronics.
I tend to make these decisions on hot days, so was prob 40 deg outside ha ha, now its like winter again no, its prob not needed ha ha.

As someone who hates sitting in a car without airflow i would probably have even more fans than you

Yep i need airflow too, cant breath otherwise, thats why i needed the forced air helmet, otherwise i would get claustrophobic or cant breath if it was a warmish day.

Hi Brendan,

I've been visiting your build quite a bit over the last year or so. It's very impressive. I loved the attention to detail (plus all the tech going into it).

I stumbled onto the build because I was looking into the SQS Racing Sequential gearbox, and if you Google MR2 and SQS, it finds your thread.

Anyway, I'm rambling.

I was wondering, do you have the dimensions used to create your dash (the big black bit), and if so, would you be prepared to share them with me please? I have the dash completely removed from my car and I'm trying to create my own dash using a bunch of Arduinos and a few 4D systems displays. I don't really want to go through all that effort to them stick them into the stock 90's dash, and your's really looks the part (though I'll probably add a cowl to prevent glare from the displays).

Cheers,

Paul

Hi Paul,

Thanks for the nice comments. Unfortunately i do not have any dimensions or template ect for the dash.

Only real help i can give you is that the top of the dash sits on some factory tabs, like right at the base of the windscreen, this is what i have bolted the top to.

The bottom of the dash is bolted to a new dash bar that goes between the A piller legs of the roll cage, part of few new roll cage bars and braces under the dash area between the roll cage A pillers ect i had put in (so the factory dash bar, that rusty thick to thin tube one, has been removed)

For my dash the windscreen would need to be removed to get it in or out, one as i cant get to the top bolts easy and 2 just how its cut around the roll cage, cant just slide it in or out like the factory dash.

Cheers.

I was going to ask about the big old rusty dash bar. So you've removed that and replaced it with part of the cage?

I don't have my cage fitted yet, so I was hoping to fab the dash and fit it before it gets fitted (then it'll be a permanent feature I guess). With that in mind, I'll definitely have to make sure that all the components are accessible from the front...

Cheers for the tips, I guess I'll just get some big bits of cardboard and make some templates.

Out of interest, how did you get the neat bends in the dash? Do you have access to a large bending machine?

Yeah it was removed.

The guys that did my cage and few other things made the dash - Fabraications in Braeside, Vic.
