I have a 1990 glimited tin top with a N/ A the car smokes slightly under hard acceleration so I'm thinking of either rebuild the 3sge or swap for a v6 or 3 Sgte ... Which would be the best cost effective option ?I'm in Perth and wondered if you guys can point me in the right direction and roughly how much am I looking at?

Cheers

If you want a complete ready to drop in V6 I have a 3vzfe bundle I removed from my car to put a 2grfe in, would require very little to work

If your content with the power of the 3sge, then just rebuild it... otherwise next cheapest option would be Tom's bundle as above, followed by a 3sgte conversion, then a 2gre would be last in relation to cost / availability.

Thanks for the response but
I'm not that mechanically minded to do the swap myself :)
Anyone know somebody to do the swap?

Thanks

Wtf auto in wa.

Rebuild yours would be the first path to seek.

Swap is generally not worth the cost unless you want the car forever and a day. Start at $10k and then add some (still won't be a turbo car as in brakes and other differences), or sell yours and buy a turbo or modified v6 mr2 done for under $10k.

How much oil does it use? Smoke under hard accl could just be over fuelling and nothing to worry about.

Ill give you $2

I support just_ace comment. Oil out the back exhaust is usually over fuelling, fuel passing through unburnt attached to the carbon produced from combustion (looks like oil but is fuel and carbon).

Usually to fix means a tune (1990 means checking your air/flow sensor setting, tps setting, getting injectors cleaned, cleaning throttle body, n/a timing (cams on n/a is more prone to fuel out the exhaust due to cam timing overlap), spark plug replacement, upper head clean spray (wrx dealership), service, warm car / reset ECU / restart car, dyno tune (if you want to throw money at it to be perfect).

Unless you are loosing lots of oil (dipstick level), your issue is just a tuning one :) to do with fuel.

Smoke under acceleration is good (to a point) as it means your not lean!

Thanks for the comments not the $2 one though lol

It uses minimal amount of oil in between services

It was taking to Tony Flood and he mentioned could probably do with a rebuild in 50,000ks

I think ill sell and get a Turbo $3800 anyone for my tintop?

Turbo, lots of smoke you want :)

Turbo have much higher expenses, due to age / wear and general engine needs. If you have cash then splash away for a turbo - just have lots of spare cash ready.

Otherwise, Tune as listed above and drive it :) drive it everyday
