The MR2 Trackday Challenge which I established at Wakefield Park in 2013 is now in the process of moving to Sydney Motorsport Park. Currently waiting on dates with June being the target.
There will be a pre-sale for MTC entrants as I have done in the past.
After this pre-sale, the entries will be open to all comers. As its SMP and competitive pricing, it should be a good crowd.
Classes and grouping will be the same as previous years.
Multiple tracks to be used.
The hot lap shoot out will be a little different to previous years due to track length but we will still get clear runs for the hot lap sessions.
Regularity will be a seven lap event.
Passenger sessions will be back.
Pit lane garages are included.
Cafe at the end of pit straight will be available.
Track time is from 9-5pm
Photoshoot is after 5pm.
Security personal allows access to the garages till 9pm on the first night.
Im working on having a bbq at the track after the days events.
Camping is allowed but based on numbers as security is required for the night which is an additional charge.
CAMS or AASA license is ok.
For interstate travellers, the accommodation will be across the road from the race track in a 4 star motel.

Pricing to be confirmed but budget for $600

I'd love to have a go at SMP, but I'd be unable to get the additional week off to be able to attend. If it was later in the same week as MTC I'd definitely go. I'm pretty sure it would be difficult for any of the SA guys to attend.

SMP is booked out that week so its not possible unless MTC is moved the following week (which is quite easy to do).
Same goes for Marulan

I have had a change of heart in putting together additional events. After being forced out of Wakefield Park due to my support of previous management I was still trying to put something together for the MR2 scene.
My heart is not in it so I will not be organizing any additional events.

Bloody politics ruins everything.

Thanks for all your hard work Steve, my first taste of MTC earlier in the year has left me yearning for more.  For my perspective the event was well run by a great group of volunteers, especially considering the number of people and disciplines / events that we undertook throughout the 3x days.

On the bright side you will have a lot me free time to get behind the wheel of your car!

Thanks for the kind words.

Yes it was good politics that made MTC happen. Without the working relationship and the support of previous management the event would have never got off the ground. He had true motorsport community spirit. He can now be found working at Lakeside where it has gone from strength to strength.

It has have a great experience which I am very proud of. The Aussie MR2 scene is now well recognized in numerous countries around the world due to MTC. It has also earned street cred within the local scene as a quick, reliable car that has a solid, positive, supportive group of drivers who look after each other with no politics at MTC. It has achieved a lot of what I set out to do so pretty happy about that. I was also hoping it would increase the value of the car due to its results at MTC. I received many messages and posts from people wanting to come over (from overseas) but aside from Japan (which is great BTW) has not happened as yet. Changing to SMP would change that.

In regards to future events, I have been making more enquires at SMP, MTC will be moving forward to one of the best facilities in Australia. Now I have finished these projects in Melbourne, I can spend some time lining up all the ducks then come up with something that takes it to the next level. Yes, WP does have history but WTAC moved from Oran Park to SMP and look what happened.

I am still suffering with my car so its still not running. Hopefully this will change in the near future. You will find me at the private practice days at SMP when it is running plus a few race meets.

MTC at SMP in 2018 sounds like a fantastic idea!
Thanks for everything you've done over the past few years, MTC has been a highlight of my MR2 ownership!

Dates have been confirmed for 2017.
3/4th of July 2017.
This is a two day multi staged event on two layouts of SMP.
The new reg's, event format, classes are being finalised but the brief is as follows:
Track time being 9am till 5pm.
This will be very close to the MR2 Trackday Challenge event structure with accumulative times over five stages.
The major difference being no hillclimb or tarmac stage. This will be replaced with the GP/WTAC circuit for day one followed by the full 'Brabham' layout for day two.
Passenger sessions
Pit lane photo session
Driver trainer
Accommodation across from the track from $150 per night per room.
Limited camping will be available. Bookings essential.
MR2 and Toyota owners will be given a 'early bird' booking before allowing other makes to enter.
The goal is a larger number than Wakefield as the hire cost is more but budget for $650 for the two days.
Camping at the track is available on request.
