Feeling the love guys.

Looks like a nice clean car. I saw your post in the Newcastle monthly meet post, it will be good to see it at one of our local meets when you make it.

I do have an intellectual property law assignment due in less than 24 hours but its kind of done so the chances of me turning up tonight are likely, but no guarantees haha.

So last weekend I took my car with some friends down to powercruise 2016 for some awesome camping and cars with mates as well as some track time for the MR2. It must be said that I had an epic time and the car felt quite at home on the track despite the stock suspension, would easily outcorner most of the bigger V8 cars they normally have at these events.

Sadly its not all good news. While I was there I got a Dyno run and with a fresh rebuild I expected the power figure to be around 140Kw or thereabouts (not actually sure how much it should produce). Sadly the result was 107Kw and most people who have been in the car say that it feels faster than that, it could be the dyno but it ran reliable numbers for other cars so I think it may be a boost leak. I have ordered a JST Omori 45mm boost gauge to replace the stock gauge to see how much boost its actually producing and hopefully thats where my problem is.

Also the clutch master cylinder failed on track and the clutch pedal wouldn't spring back up as it should. We looked closer and found out that it was leaking fluid through the firewall so I've got a new master cylinder and slave cylinder to be attached this weekend. I am not looking forward to bleeding it, any suggestions are most welcome. The temp also started climbing after the track session and drivers side radiator fan doesn't work, were able to force power to it so I know it works but I don't know whats broken in the circuit. Can anyone reccomend where I should get some new resistors for the fans? Finally the dump pipe has come loose and now the car sounds like a tractor so that also has to be fixed on the weekend.

Generally a good weekend the small faults with the car are easy fix's or at least appear to be so hopefully I'll have the car diagnosed and running properly in the near future.

Shame about the dyno numbers. Must be annoyed to have such a well-maintained car not put power down like expected. Best of luck with all the repairs though, fingers crossed none of them are larger jobs than they seem!

It is a bit disappointing but after I fix the other issues I can begin diagnosing to find the issue. Many people have said factory blow off valve can be the cause of a boost leak. Good to know it'll be way more powerful when I'm done though haha.

Well the fist repair (dump pipe) is a pain in the ass. First problem is I need a gasket from Japan and my car is a daily so I'm going to have to mooch of the missus car for 2 weeks while I wait for the part. It took me all day to actually get the dump pipe off because it kept hitting the housing of the oil cooler. Finally managed to separate it via taking of nearly the whole exhaust system, felt so good to finally do it.

what was left of the gasket

Other MR2 owners say I should do the Hose from Hell and the Hose from Hell on Earth while I have the oil cooler partially disassembled. I may do it while I'm waiting on the parts we'll have to see. I might get a start on the clutch master tomorrow.

Yeah good call on the 'Hoses from hell'.  Now's the time to do it.
BTW: Those cheap aftermarket dump gaskets are rubbish.  If you can, replace it with a factory one, you'll never have the problem again ;-)
Its also pays to inspect your dump pipe whilst its off, they often get little cracks around or from the weld joints.

Just go to MTQ for a Sonic Performance metal gasket, or I have one that I did not use as I changed turbo model. The one in the picture are cheap chinese made ones.

Yea a fellow MR2 guy told me about the hose, it'll be here on Tuesday. My OEM gasket will be here in 2 weeks fortunately the local stealership hired someone with half a brain so getting the parts was easy. Too many people have said to use the OEM gasket so that's what i'll do. The dump is only 10,000kms old so no cracks or signs of wear yet.

Today's problem was to replace the slave cylinder. What a ***** of a job the two 12mm bolts that hold it to the box are impossible to get in, shall have to try again tomorrow.

Alright after lots of screwing about (quite literally) I finally got the 12mm bolts in to hold the slave to the box. Many rejoicing was had. I then put the master cylinder in and also found out that the front engine mount has a tear in it, So I'm just going to fill it with sikaflex 252 untill I decide to go with poly mounts or otherwise, worked fine on my friends Adub haha.

This is a good build thread, always more fun doing it yourself, ive had similar problems with my car too, same year and its turbo, took me a week to take out my blown turbo and put a new one in, now coolant is slowly leaking from somewhere so gotta fix that next. long way til my car is aesthetically pleasing but yours looks nice, keep up the build man!
