all i can say from experience is TRY NOT to drive this car in the wet, like you would when its on a dry road, if you have to then be very carefull. i loose traction even crawling around roundabouts. [ i may have some suspension related things i need to sort out, and poor tyre choices (federal super streets) thats also part to blame]
some people may go up in arms about this comment from me, but this is my own personal observation, not to mention many a MR2 has been written off in wet weather.

Thanks for that purple5, now I don't feel so bad about crawling around roundabouts in the wet.
Yes, I also know it has quite a bit to do with wheel & tyre set up, but they are on the list of things to fix.  Just gets putting back due to mechanical things needing to be fixed.

I guess this is a good time to raise the argument of advanced driver training and trackdays. May have reduced the chance of incidents like the few mentioned.

Also the importance of car set up over powering up the car.

honestly I think alot of it comes down to common sense too
Like battling a gtr down nebo - not smart. yeah sure its great in initial d, but youre not takumi and youre not delivering tofu. the only thing being delivered is you mangled body to the hospital.

agree with the above about track days, I learnt alot from the skidpan and drift days I did.
Which brings me to the other point, that people are taught how to avoid a slide and not how to handle it if it occurs.

My street motto is "I don't race anything that can't beat me" though I don't think I'd bother racing a GTR with a street MR2. It's bound to end in pain - even if you don't crash.

My advice for the street - TYRES TYRES TYRES
Make sure you get tyres with a treadwear rating no more than 250. A mate of mine just bought a 2008 WRX STi and it has tyres with a treadwear of 450! WTF!!! All that money for a great car and the previous idiot owner put **** tyres on it. He was asking for death.

Why don't I sell my MR2? Because every time I think about it, I take it for a drive & talk myself out of it.

Because everytime I really want to drive it I can fix the battery, pump the tyres and go.
Just put mine back on the road after 12 months in the shed. Battery dead, tyres a few psi down. Started first time.
Also, it's a fun car to drive. Not a bike, but still fun.

Some people just don't realise that you need to be cautious of changes in road surface, hazards, in the wet, etc. Motorcyclists tend to be acutely aware of this, but in a car you feel safer to push limits.

Could not agree more! Okay so I don't have a motorbike, but cycling on a pushbike has made me a better driver ironically because I "read the road" better these days.
