Dudeman
I need to have a non running (but rolling) car transported from Sydney to outer Brisbane (Jimboomba)

any suggestions on who is good and who to avoid?

Its for my 1970 LC Torana. Has 25,000 miles on the clock, 1st time round. It features the raw power of the 1050cc 4cyl engine.

Being the 'S' model it came with the creature comfort of, wait for it - a vent. Which has the options of 'open' or 'closed'.

Hi Dudeman,
I enjoy following your posts & comments.
Concerning car transporters, about 2 years ago, I brought my MR2 from Sydney to Perth with Trade Car Transport.
More recently I have brought a car from Adelaide to Perth with Prix Car Services.
In both cases the cars were running & were dropped off & picked up from their depots, both ends.
I also just went to their websites, no references.
I reckon that Prix Car Services were a little better than Trade Car. I reckon that Trade Car were just a broker & the MR2 came via Toll Transport.
I am fairly sure that Toll also provide their own service.
Best Regards,

Dudeman, what is happening? Are you moving back up here? Don't forget under "Can Do" we now require proof of identity, past Queensland citizenship certificate, parents names and identity checks, fingerprints, no patches on your undies, etc. etc. before we can let you back across the Tweed.

On more serious matters I support what Peter has said. You have to watch the "brokers". Toll does operate a good service (knew someone who drove for them and they relay run the trucks with crew changeovers, often using the inland route) so you may want to call them direct. None of this will be cheap unless you can find someone who is doing a back-load and is empty, but the hassles with these are that you have to often do your own loading and get the car to the depot which could be anywhere.

The niche guys you see advertising with closed rigid trucks charge a lot more.

If you need any help at this end while you are clearing customs let me know.

I used PrixCar last year, they were ok for me, no damage done. Dropped the car off at their depot on a Wednesday morning, arrived and delivered in Brisbane by Friday lunchtime. I believe Prixcar bought out Toll's car carrier service a few years ago.

Dudeman,
We had one of those as a Company car back in early 70's. It was a 4 speed manual.
I can remember winding it out to valve bounce in 3rd gear (about 72mph or just over 110kph)  on a dead flat, straight road then slotting it into 4th and having it lose about 5 mph (8kph) speed!!!
We replaced it with a later model Torana with 1900cc Opel motor. I was even worse and an auto as well.
They don't build 'em like they used to (thank god!).
cheers
Steve

I used Autotrans (aka Toll Auto) at the time, to get my car from Wollongong to Canberra non-registered, but they much prefered it be running good enough to drive it on/off the trailer. They did provide a good service though.

As previously mentioned, in 2012 PrixCar bought Toll Auto.
