I final decided to drop in a 3sgte into my car, My engine just clicked over to 300,000km so i decided it was time and i went hunting for a donor

This is my car a 1992 mr2 Australian delivered i bought it 6 years ago. I have done a few modification to it sway bars, rsr springs, kazz lsd and a intake pipe. but now i want more power

I started searching for a half cut but one day I saw a wreaked mr2 on the net and it was around the same price as a half cut $2500. I went to have a look at it, the engine started up fine idled fine no smoke no oil in the water or water in the oil. The gearbox when into gear fine but could not drive it (one of the wheels was not moving) but it looked good to me so I bought it.

This is were its been hit

The dude crashed it into the tree and it saw a bitch getting it into the drive way with one of the wheel not spinning. The brake is stuck and i cant push the piston back in. I will try and fix it once i get the engine out

I decided on the wreaked car instead of a halfcut because i could sell a lot of the parts off and the money i get will be used to overhaul the engine.

so the car is a 1991 mr2 with a gen2 1993 3sgte the last owner converted. One of the cool things about it is it has traction control and only 100,000km

I started taking things apart

Intercooler + piping
intake pipe
cruse control
ac belt and pulley
I'm very slowly working on it I'm in no rush i spend about one hour a day on it.

It ended up having a HKS air intake kit and a trust intercooler and some sort of aftermarket exhausts looks like a 3"

today i started on the engine harness. I disconnected the loop and pushed it into the engine bay

and what is this ecu is it for the traction control ???

also took the muffler of, drained the coolant and took off all the radiator+heater Hoses, so now my engine looks like this

and does any one know what this exhaust is. it says F Z X GARAGE

i haven't updated for i while basically i
took the rest of the exhaust off
the cross mender is out and all the suspension linkages + brakes. The car ended up having gen2 brakes on the right and gen3 brakes on the left probably one of the reasons he crashed.

drive shafts are out but one cv joint is broken the cage snapped in the crash probably upgrade to ATS ones

car looks like this now

i think im almost there

I think the only thing thats left are the engine mounts and ac motor so its should be coming out very soon. So far nothing has been to difficult except for one rusted bolt on the exhaust and the drive shaft nuts was a pita. What i did is i knocked the little centaur thing of the wheel out put the wheels back on the car and lowered the car back down. Put the car in gear and a brick on the front wheels. Then i used a breaker bar with a long pipe on the end even with the pipe it was extremely tight. had to use my whole body weight while pushing down but it finally came off

the broken cv joints well cage

and this thing. I hope its not expansive to replace, In the crash The drive shaft got pushed to the side and damaged it but it shaft is ok

also started polishing up my inter cooler pipes

YESSS engine is out

and in the garage

MMMM TURBO

and i did it with out a engine crane

What i did is i disconnected the front and rear engine mouths + slave cylinder

and i put a dolly under the car ( u can see it in the 2nd + 3rd pic home made) and drop the car on to the dolly

Then u can disconnect the left and right engine mounts from the top. on the right engine mount there's two 14mm nuts under neath, but you can still get to it when the car is dropped on the dolly

once the mounts are off start jacking the rear of the car up one jack on each side of the car (not at the back off the car like in the top photo but on the side were the intercooler and air vents are). I also put jack stands next to the jacks just in case something goes wrong. my jacks didn't go high enough so i left the car on my stands and got some blocks of wood to put under the jacks and continued lifting the car in the air until there was room to slide the engine out

i felt this way was a lot safer then dropped the engine with a engine crane while the car was in the air and i lot cheaper since i didn't have a crane

Nice bit of effort there.

I think you should have some sort of backup safety if those stands fail - even spare wheels do if thats all you have.
