So, had my car at a work shop yesterday and we threw it on the dyno to diagnose an issue where it cuts power prior to 3,000RPM sometimes. As if it is cutting fuel or something at that point. 

Anywho, the guy owns the dyno has a ZL1 camaro (late model type) and it has a whipple supercharger. he is in talks with a company about a kit to intercool his car with this AC Assisted intercooler setup.

Does anyone have experience with these intercoolers?... anyone know where we can find someone who deals in them?

I'm about to spend a crap load more money on my car to find out whats loody wrong with it so figure i might as well look at the whole packaage and see if there is anything i missed recently while it got an engine rebuild etc.

Meth / water injection is your best option. Cools without strain to the engine, increases octane. Best value for money at about $600 plus install and tune.

The guy was talking about a mob in aus called forced induction interchillers. They tee of your aircon circuit, and have an evaporator to water heat exchanger that is used to super cool the water in your water to air intercooler setup. The also make a 'race valve' where you can bypass the cabin ac for maximum cooling of the water for the intercooler

The idea is nothing new, if you want contact details i can get them for you. I think their universal kit is around $2400, however im not entirely sure how well it will function on a 20+ year old mr2 ac system.

So just got off the phone with Interchillers.

Basically, his said the ultimate setup is to convert the AC system to an electric unit that ensures it remains activated and chilling during WOT. 

He would also leave the air to air intercooler in place so it enables a preliminary cooling effect prior to entering the interchiller. He also recommended going with a water injection kit.

so the interchiller setup is $2,200. the Electric AC unit is $1950 and then ontop of that you'll ned piping, coolant resovoir, 


I'd be looking at at least $5500 for a the kit and this exclude time to install, setup and tune it to suit.
 
He assures me that the setup he sells will bring intake temps down to -20Deg when running on elec pump with engine switched off. then as you get a decent amount of laps done at WOT the temps would increase but they stay within the single digit temp range or close to it. 

The other issue there is the added weight. I'd be looking at 35 - 50kg total weight gain. I think the power increase once tuned would be minimal so the power to weight may actually suffer rather than gain.

GOing to talk to my tuning dude about it all and see what he thinks.

How much more power / response do you expect to get through tuning by improving IATs alone?  How much more power / response could be bought for $5.5k via other means (eg. turbo or cams  + W2A IC & Tune)?
 
Ask the tuner (and yourself) where is money spent most effectively for your goals, what's the best bang for buck.

So I am curious what AC compressor you would use? would it be a Prius compressor or something similar?

Just thought even without using it as part of the intercooler system I am curious if it could help reduce parasitic load on the engine just by converting to electronic AC.

He directed me to a company called Rencool in QLD. Apparently they produce a very efficient unit that works great and it allows the setup to be directed to just cabin AC or just reducing intake temps.

Price of the recommended unit is nearly $2K supply only.

Having my car located in Mount Isa now the heat certainly concerns me. But not enough to justify the spend on this setup, Especially since we will end up back in Newcastle when we finish this contract. Going to plug along with my A2A setup, but thinking of adding the vent scoops either side and hatch thermo's.

I am going to be looking to go through my AC and give it a good service as its not working the best atm and I am a little concerned about the compressor seals so if I was going to have to replace the compressor anyway then I would also be interested if I could make my AC more efficient at the same time.
I will probably just stick with just the W2A intercooler system I have bought for mine as far as intercooling goes though as I probably couldn't justify that price for what I might gain in our climate.

I've only just started looking at jobs back in the Newcastle area. Will start applying soon and think about settling down. Thinking it would be nice to get a surface job where im not stuck down the hole all day. So hopefully sooner rather than later but im hoping to be back by end of the year. Will miss the weather up here but thats about it haha.

seen so many ideas of a/c cooling charge air...  i personally do not think any mobile a/c unit can chill the volume of air flowing into the engine.
