There is only a short section in the NT of a couple of hundred kms which is unlimited these days, but it's still over a thousand kms from Adelaide, so not viable to be part of the event lol. I don't think there will be much planning done by the SA guys until later this year... I'm pretty sure we could use your expertise with running the track day though. Thanks for offering to help, we're only a small group here, but we're enthusiastic lol.

Its a shame there are not more sections of road which are unlimited but we cannot have everything.
I am happy to help out as I know you are a small enthusiastic group with a great focus on track work. You also have some great roads and countryside to explore and a fantastic city, so no doubt it will be a great event.

Are you keen on doing a practise day with us? Would like to see your times here. As it is high horsepower track. Very difference to wakefield

Yes, I will be bringing my car over but I will be there sooner than 2017. My car will be tuned and tested in S.A. so you will see it sooner than later! I am very keen on having Glenn/Pat/Peter W/Peter G/Aaron and a few other with dedicated race cars coming along in 2017 so need to make it a event we can stretch our legs. A demo race would be a treat.
Also have something else up my sleeve but will release it when all is confirmed.

Thanks for your offer Steve, but you have jumped the gun a bit.

First the MR2 Nationals 2017 is owned wholly by the MR2 Owners Club of Australia and will be organised by the Committee and people in South Australia who have a local knowledge.

We are already in discussions for the "Track Day" at the 2017 Nationals and don't want any confusion by individuals organising components of the Nationals without consultation.

I applaud the work you have done with your Track Day Challenge events and they add to the MR2 Movement overall for owners to enjoy. Go ahead with your event by all means, but the MR2 Nationals will be in addition to your event, NOT part of it.

That way SA MR2 Owners get to attend two different types of events in their State. My suggestion is to bring your planned track day forward to 2016.

Cheers, Kevin

Kevin, Steve is only offering to help organise one part of the Nationals in SA, his experience with track days is invaluable. He is still doing the MTC separately, and is in no way trying to take over the SA nationals. He is only offering to assist. The SA guys might not take up his offer yet. Nobody has included me in the discussions that are already apparently underway. As a member of the SA MR2 community, I find this very disappointing. I have messaged Graham (essdub) offering to help out with the 2017 Nationals, and have been told that nothing will be done until later this year.
I'm hoping to have some involvement in organising the SA Nationals even though I live a long way from Adelaide..

Cheers
Rick

Hello Kevin,

Thankyou for providing a clear picture of the structure of the Nationals as I was unaware a National body managed it.
Thankyou for the kind words regarding the MR2 Trackday Challenge. I do respect the decision of the MR2 Club of Australia to manage their own event.
I still feel it is advantageous to discuss some options which benefits everyone as the Clubs of Australia and MTC are on the page. This being, providing services to the MR2 community of Australia.

Something we should consider:
If MTC and N2017 came to a productive agreement there is a strong possibility of the majority of the MTC entry list enjoying a few days in S.A. with N2017. I get excited just thinking of the smiles on everyone's faces!
Working together to have the first MR2 'demonstration' race would be incredible. I am sure Club of MR2 Australia could organise some of the original race cars to attend.

The only issue with having one trackday is this:

Here is a example:
When I appeared at the Winton trackday(Monday), that was due to myself competing at Winton on the Fri/Sat/Sun (second outright in SuperTT which I was very happy with!). If I was not able to drive at the race meet, I may not have appeared (the only registered race car at the event).
Another:
If MTC was one day, interstate drivers would not come along as it is not worth their while. Even now, we have three days booked in (MTC 2016), with discussions for another day (possibly) Eastern Creek as this works for the 8+ entries which come from S.A. and the many other entries from Qld/Tasmania/Victoria/ACT/Northern NSW/Japan. This is simply there to allow value for time and money for these individual's.

The solution:
Have a MTC event which runs for one or two days in conjunction with N2017 trackday.
or
Planning the N2017 around other motorsport events which will inspire trailered cars to make the long haul to S.A.
This could be a race weekend at Mallala or a Hillclimb at one of the Hillclimb tracks.

Kind regards

Steven

Is there a formal MR2 club of Australia? If so , how do I join? SA doesn't have a formal club like the eastern states...

Rick, if you would like to assist the MR2 Owners Club of Australia in the organising committee/group to plan and put together a total program for the 3 day MR2 Nationals 2017 in Adelaide, SA then your input would be most welcome.  Graham (essdub) has already indicated willingness to assist.  I'll put together a group email list of those who want to help plan the event so we can work together.  Send me an email to nationals@mr2club.com.au

Hello Steve, you know the planning that goes into pulling off an event like your MR2 Trackday Challenges, so I guess you understand a lot more goes into planning a three day MR2 Nationals Event.  We are already in discussions for a Track Day which will suit both competitive and non competitive MR2 owners.

The MR2 Nationals are a totally different type of event to your MR2 Trackday Challenges, lets keep them separate, and as I said we can give the SA MR2 owners two events in their State.

Steve, please go ahead with your event, but don't confuse it with the MR2 Nationals.

Cheers, Kevin

Rick, there was a formal MR2 Owners Club of Australia (SA Chapter) but it takes lots of dedicated people to keep it going.  Unfortunately some years back the members drifted away.  It only takes a few people to organise themselves into a sort of committee, create a structure (piggyback on and existing MR2 Club for assistance until you get up and running) plan a few event and MR2 owners will follow.  The VIC Club is 24 years old this month and still going strong.

I'm happy to give you all the help you need to get going.

Thanks for clearing that up Kevin.

If you are planning on one trackday, will this be within a day of a race meet at the track so people interested in bringing their car to South Australia will have more than the one day of driving?
Will there be timing, fire, ambulance etc?

This is aimed at the owners of cars which will be 'trailered to the track'. I have already spoken to a few of the owners of race spec MR2 who would come along, but need more than just 'one day' at Mallala.

As MR2 Club is more comfortable with running separate events, I will respect the decision. It would make a lot of sense to have a second trackday/meet within a day or two after the MR2 Nationals just for the benefit of people who would travel to enjoy both events over week.

Its also important to understand that I am not looking to run MTC in S.A. in competition to the Nationals. This was never in my thoughts (never has been). MTC is held at Wakefield Park in January every year, nowhere else. I planned on bringing over a lot of knowledge and expertise to provide a quality trackday package by taking 'aspects' of a already successful event for the benefit of MR2 owners who are considering N2017.

For the Nationals being more involved in organising than MTC, I believe we are 'on par' with each other (organisation) as both parties put in a lot of effort for the same cause.
