^ should be much simpler to lay low in the 4Runner than the EVO.. or even the AW11 for that matter! aaargh imanidiot. <_<

Lil red's not actually particularly clean in those photos either - Its just hard to see the dust! I have NFI when it was last washed...

Love the 4Runner! Where did you find it? That blue interior is so typical, do you ever feel like you should be wearing flairs and a gold chain around your neck when driving it?
Toyota made cars with character in the 80's, so different to the moving white goods they have churned out for sale in Australia in recent times (86 excepted of course - shame its half Subaru). Its tremendous that you can still find older Toyotas like your SR5.
Keep up the great work on the AW11 also, these are getting very to find and I seem to be seeing more people taking them back to stock. Your use of the original teardrop alloys is making me think hard about getting mine refurbished and putting them on.
Look forward to this thread continuing!!

4Runner turned up at a local dealer wholesaler yard. Spotted it passing by, and pounced on it - I never see these.. let alone for sale. Very lucky.
Flares and a gold chain though are for the GTS - the real wog-chariot! heheh
I actually just sold my spare set of teardrops yesterday. I had always kept them in case I wanted to get a set redone, but needed the space; and they found a good home.
I was fortunate to get my good set on there now, which while not perfect, are in impressive condition for original.
Definitely nice to see people cleaning these up these days too. With the youngest AW11's 25 next year, they're just getting too old to thrash without things breaking. I'd say by this stage any careless/neglecting owners have well and truly moved on to newer things...

Anyway, cheers for the feedback fellas. :)

All geared up for some grind-n-bog-n-paint work on the 4runzy this Christmas holidays. Needed a couple days to do it, and will have to get stuck right in. Bought a soft-top for it the other day too... :)

But more importantly; recent adub work. Same ol same ol... just re-assembly stuff, so nice and fun.

Masked and painted the factory blackouts on the side-skirts - something I didnt do last time I painted these!
The previous paint on the skirts had actually held up find, but just got it re-done with the other parts as i wanted to do the blackouts, and wanted a good red base underneath. it all gets fairly shagged behind the wheels after a few thousand kays..
Used a rubbery stoneguard bumper paint, which went on thick. We'll see how well it lasts..

Then, like the lip, the annyoing job of glueing the black trim back on. Its still the same one the car has always had, and its starting to get pretty scruffy.. but eh..

Then all the front lip parts to go on..

and done..! I had put the bumper on last weekend.. or the weekend before.. I cant remember.

Skirts and mudflaps back on.
best part here is the lack of lipped guards. It'll never be as good as it was before I did it; but hell yeah anyway!

Little..

Reh..!!

..Phoar.. I am so damn pumped to drive this again..!

Your attention to detail is ridiculous! I wish I had this much patience :/

I can see some red poking through on the rear wheel well, better paint it ;)

Jokes man, looking awesome to see it getting put back together.

Please take this to the MR2 display at the Melbourne F1 next year. Gives me another excuse to make it down there!

cheers guys.

Red on those wheel wells is either from recent paint, or original paint. I imagine even when Toyota painted these, they got overspray on the undercoating underneath..
but lel.. ain't nobody got time for that!

Not sure about F1 or whatnot.. I actually have to get the car on the road again first!

but as progress on the way there; rear bumper. :)

This was a bit of a pain.
I really really wanted a new rear bumper reo (and even had one on order in the UK for a while) but couldn't get one anywhere. There's just none left..
SO.. I had a decent spare one blasted and repainted. close enough.

All back together..! Not a bolt or clip missing.. :)

On it goes, and finally the boot trims can go back in. They've been sitting around and in the way for months..!

That's a different bumper skin to my usual one. Has a slight dip in the middle which I assume was from a past rear-ender.. but looks good enough. If it's too noticeable I'll just put my other one back on..

All back to normal here... :)

Next up - the side bump strip and decals..

Got the bump strips and decals back on.

Scraped and sanded all the leftover glue off the back of the bump-strips..

..Bump strips to go back on.

Original Decal. The decal is a two-tone silvery champage combination, with the three stripes in one clear decal.

Because the quarter panel ones are uber unpossibre to find these days, I need to cut down a longer decal.

Measured and marked the position using masking tape. Easy to get a good straight line, and also visualize the final position.

And on.
..and the problem with decals that are far from new. Lots of scrubbing and polishing to get this residue off... <_<

Masked out where the bump strips go. Same method as the decals..

Thin smear of silicone.

Bump strips on! Good as new.. :)

Now I just have to detail the hell out of the whole car.

Looks amazing.  I had the same problem with my decals when I got my rear bar resprayed.  I used a heat gun, very very carefully, to remove the residue.  Worked well.

Cheers. :)

Not much has changed since the last pics. I gave the car a thorough wash since then (first time in months.. maybe a year??), but haven't around to the little polishing and detailing bit yet. I'll get there..

Over christmas I was instead very busy tiding up rust on the 4runzeh. Got it done, and more than happy enough with how it turned out - despite the on-the-piss autobarn colourmatch for the paint. haha
Just has to look good enough from a couple feet away! :)

..Then the final part - added the soft top:

..Rolls up, then folds back like a cabrio. fkn cute as.. haha

Now to go outside and get stuck back into the adoob - get it looking its best.
Hard to express just how badly I wish i was driving that thing right now. As of this moment, there isn't a car in the world I'd rather go for a drive in! ffffuuu...
