I have a 1995 SW20 3sge MR2, about to fit forged rods, high comp pistons, Kelford 272 IN, 264 EX cams, higher rate valve springs and have the lot including crank and flywheel all balanced. Will be doing some very minor head work as the original design has great flow/velocity as is. My question is what is the cheapest/easiest way to allow it rev higher. The mods I am doing will allow me to stay with the factory ECU so want to keep this.

Good luck running a high comp motor with those cams on a stock ecu. You'll be wasting the setup. Go aftermarket ecu. The economy, idle etc on that setup will be horrible.

I had done a bit of research about running these cams, Neil Bates states that the GenIII engine/ecu will handle these cams quite well, he would obviously use an aftermarket ECU with his though.The issue I have is finding a decent tuner here in Tassie if I go down the aftermarket ECU, dont want to spend my money only to have my engine self destruct cause the tuner is not up to speed.

Contact Stuka. He's from TAS & has a local tuner I believe. It's more likely the stock ecu will harm the motor given you've raised the comp.

+1 to aftermarket ecu. i can't see how the ecu will be able to safely compensate or have an accurate tune for the extra CR or flow let alone when you want to push past the normal rev limit
