Ok, quick update.
Engine is in.
Fuel system plumbed up - had to extend the aw fuel line about 6"
Heater hoses done.
One radiator hose done.
New battery carrier went in today.
Brackets to hold hoses etc. fitted.
All electrics connected.
Old alarm removed - pig of a job.
Engine cranks, and we have oil pressure.

Tomorrow - 2nd radiator hose / filler /overflow to manufacture and fit.
Accelerator linkage to fit : we'll look at adapting the aw11 linkage, so I can connect the factory cruise control.
Mount new ecu.
See if she starts!

Then it's just the inlet & exhaust, and re-assembling the interior.
And brakes and rear struts.
And rust removal and a new paint job.

So many little things take so much time, but we're getting there.

Well it took all afternoon, but I have a throttle linkage which incorporates the cruse control cable.

It's a hybrid of the blacktop and aw11 linkages. The finish is not up to John's usual exellent standard, owing to the amount of cutting and shutting required, but it's sturdy and it all works.

Heater and fuel lines all nice and tidy :

Fuel line nicely supported :

Still a fair bit to go, but we're getting there.

You made a new battery carrier but didn't move it to the froot?

Not at this stage. I have a full-size spare in there at the moment, and moving the battery up front would be more work than we feel like doing right now. Between rallying, building rally cars, and working on my conversion, our wives have been getting a bit antsy.

When I have a few less items on the to-do list, I'll look at moving the battery to the front, probably in conjunction with a side-mount cold air intake. At the moment I just want to get the mr2 back on the road - although the van is also mid-engined, it's not nearly as much fun to drive.

Tonight :
Captive nut for aircon line mount replaced (pop-riveted in a new plate with captive nut).
Aircon lines bent back into shape & re-mounted.
Oil pressure light wired to interior (not fitted LED yet)
Fixed bodgy hole in firewall where alarm wiring came through.
Mounted b'top ecu & main relay (better brackets than the bodged aw11 ones).

So I rotated the battery 90 degrees, coz I couldn't get the cover off the fuse box as I had mountede it. Now I have heaps of room all round, ant the + terminal is nice and clear of everything.
Pics another time.

I made this on the weekend :

Out of Bunnings poly pipe fittings.
With a bit of ridge removal, it's pretty smooth inside :

And fitted it tonight. It's a perfect size to adapt the ~70mm AW11 intake to the ~80mm blacktop plumbing.
I used the stub where the AW11 intake resonator used to go to mount the inlet air temp sensor :

And the final result is this (ignore random hoses laying over engine) :

So that's the intake done. 2 vacuum hoses to fit (cruise and a/c idle-up), and all the air / vacuum will be finished. Engine lid latch next.

I would have got more done, but spent all day sunday fitting a 2nd hand 4AT into a friends AE82, after she blew it up on friday.
Tonight, her auto died! It was fine test driving yesterday, after the engine swap.
I towed her home behind the trusty van, which didn't miss a beat, as usual.

Finally another (small) step !

This arrived today :

2-1/4" Blacktop downpipe from sv3power.com (aaron willis) in oregon.

When welded, it will look something like this :

Spring is here, parts are arriving, the end is in sight !

(If the new job leaves me enough time and energy)
