Eric
So today we finished off the servicing of the motor and put it back in, man that was an effort.

We had struggled yesterday to separate the gearbox from the motor, as one of the bolts was too long to take out with the CV's still there, so we separated the cv's and then the motor from the subframe.

Since the rear main seal was leaking we had to change the oil filled clutch, even though it had some meat left on it
The old clutch:

Free from its chains!

And then the longest, and most fun part began: Trying to get the motor back onto the gearbox. This took us nearly two hours

I had a spare moment and the motor was out, so i took a compulsory mr2 owner in engine bay photo

The gearbox and engine FINALLY decided to be friends, and the fat heavy subframe decided it didnt like either of them so it left along with a coilover and wheel.

Then my mates decided to put the motor and box back in. They had decided that the best way to do it was to stack two tires under where the motor should go, place it ontop and hope that its the right height. I came to the rescue with a better idea, which was to use the engine crane and the hoist (the correct and normal way for mr2 owners :P )

The motor got to sit down on a nice comfy tire and watch what unfolded arround it.

Then the car came down like a tonne of toyota

And then it was done! The motor was back in its usual place and happy.

All thats left do do now is re-attach the subframe, coilovers, wheels, hoses and the gauges

I need help with the gauges though: What is the best way to run an oil pressure gauge? (as in where should the senders go)

Hoping that it will be done for the the 25th! Got two weeks so I hope all is well

Car is back home, parked safely in the garage.

Need to sort out some issues though:

We put a new accelerator cable in and it feels a bit funny. there is about a cm or two of free play in the pedal before the cable tightens up and rips open the throttle body. How can I adjust this?

Car seems to be a bit iffy selecting 1st (I have a short shifter)

Just glad to have it back

With regards to the shifting difficulty maybe there's air in the clutch system so try bleeding it. Mine seems better after that. Otherwise next place to look is the clutch master cylinder. Whatever you do DON'T force it too hard into 1st otherwise the cable can snap then you're L4D (sort of, I did lol). I also found slightly tapping the accel while pushing into 1st helped give some slack

What i meant, was that when you push the shifter into first, it seems to go into third, even when it looks like it should be first

Bit of an update

Car was working great until it started making a terrible whining noise, ended up being the timing belt rubbing (thanks to Falcon for coming and helping me find it)
Got a new steering wheel a while a go, genuine Nardi Padded Centre. These are pretty rare apparently

Also tried on some wheels while at my friend's shed. these are 17x9 +20 I think. Obviously wouldnt use them for the front but the rears fit pretty well.

And last up, a group shot of the 'pop up headlight club'

It is such a great feeling to have a car that dosn't drip oil and is now reliable (hopefully)

Next up is brakes, followed by wheels and I will be happy. Coming along rather nicely

Finally got arround to getting new wheels and maaan do they look good

My friend cooper took this photo overlooking the city. wheels fit much better! 17x8 all round, +30 front and +15 rear

running my crappy 205/40/17 rotallas for the moment on the front and 225/45 bridgestones i got for free on the rear.
car handles like a boss now, scrubs a bit also. guards are rolled dead flush on the rear and it also has a slight pump of about 8mm's on the rear to make it just legal.

I also got my p's last week so ive been driving her round and she is most definetly still fun!
the wheels are Versus Zenkais. their a cheap wheel, quality is a bit meh up close but at 110 a wheel I couldn't complain!

other things that got completed are machined brake rotors and uprated pads, installed water temp, oil pressure and vacuum gauges, and getting the A/C regassed on thursday (thank god!)

I love her just that bit more now since she has a nice stance :)

Tidied up my engine bay recently, used crinkle black on most things and gloss on the heat sheilds. My old toyota twincam badge was far from salvagable so i stickerbombed it, clearcoated it 10 times then reapplied it to the intake manifold. It adds a bit of vibrace to a very dull area I think. not pictured is my turbo factory strut brace that I bought off ddubtoille for extra rigidity :P

I want to do the throttle body a different colour but i have heard if you remove the TPS its a pain to get it back in working so im leaving that for now

The other thing I did was stickerbomb my boot.... not really a fan of external stickerbombing but this is a inconspicuous place compared to a quarter panel, plus everyone goes "wow" when you open the boot up

last but not least is my other project car I have been working on, my 1990 mitsubishi triton drift ute. took it to skidpan recently for a bit of a shakedown. goes alright

Thats all the updates for now, not sure what will be done next but we shall soon see :)

Your car is looking great! The wheel fitment looks spot on.
