Well the big thing I'm gauging at the moment is to see if there is enough interest to support a private track day. I've been talking to QR about hiring Lakeside and have the costing and paper work, but really need a big commitment from the community. Especially since Lakeside is only available for public hire on a weekday (which means people have to commit money and time several months in advance).
My current thoughts are to provide as much track time as possible by limiting the entries to 30 - 40 cars max. 10 cars per session.
Lakeside = approx $7200 for a full day. (This figure might increase due to some extra stuff I'm working out currently)
30 cars = $240 / car
40 cars = $180 / car
30 cars = 3x20 min sessions with 10 cars per hour
40 cars = 4x15 min sessions with 10 cars per hour
20 min sessions means approx 16 laps per session (based on a 1:15 lap)
15 min sessions means approx 12 laps per session (based on 1:15 lap)
6 hrs of track time split into 20 min sessions = 120 mins track time per group for the day
6 hrs of track time split into 15 min sessions = 90 mins track time per group for the day
120 mins track time = approx 96 laps!
90 mins track time = approx 72 laps!
30 cars = $240 = 96 laps = $2.50 per lap
40 cars = $180 = 72 laps = $2.50 per lap
There are some big hurdles to jump:
- I doubt there are 30 people in QLD who are ready/interested to do a track day. Means we need to invite another club or outsiders to join us.
- We need 50% deposit to secure the track.
- People need to commit early.
- Insurance needs to be organized. I'm going to have a discussion with QR and Walter about this and then do further research.
- Will probably need a few members to help out on the day, which is great fun when everyone wants to be on the track ;)
Motorkhana wise, I can get the costing and paper work for hiring the Road Craft skid pans in Gympie. However, are people prepared to travel to Gympie (I've heard grumblings on travel before....)?
