Thanks guys is very helpful, will go and check these things and see if i can't nut it out. I bought myself a fuel filter today thinking it wouldn't hurt to replace it anyway and at least eliminate that as a possibility. Hopefully will get it sorted soon as it is killing me just having it sit there un-drivable!

Just a quick question, how will i know if my AFM is faulty? Is there anyway of checking without replacing the unit?

Damn is a bit too dark to see properly under the car now so might have to wait till tomorrow to do the fuel filter.

However I noticed this thing just dangling around near the air filter (am pretty sure it is irrelevant) but has got me stumped as to what it is?!
Seems like a sensor of some sort...

That the engine bay temp sensor. It should be mounted at the bottom of the engine lid in the center. With it unpluged the intercooler fan will run all the time with the engine on

AFM packing in on these motors is common.

First, run diagnostics on the ECU to see if it has thrown any AFM signal codes.

Ok so I pulled the AFM apart this afternoon to check it out and it seemed the gate was pretty well jammed shut! SO, I cleaned it out and hastily put it all back together thinking I've gone done solved it. Should've known better though not to rush putting things back together because you tend to forget things, like for example putting the electric harness back on lol. I started it up, and lo and behold it ran exactly the same with lots of smoke but then stalled due to starving the motor of oxygen. Realising my stupidity I put the harness back on... thinking it should be all good but now there's nothing... not even a little bit of kick :(
Guess I need to reset the computer, to stop it from thinking that something is still wrong?
Changed the fuel filter this morning, but now the fuel pump is making a few funny noises, don't recall it doing this before and there did seem to be plenty of fuel coming through but it might be low now and struggling to get a prime... However it did start before so has got me wondering. Oh well. Cleaned up the spark plugs now and guess will just have to hope for the best tomorrow with a fresh tank of fuel and reset computer.
God I'm an idiot lol.

Thanks guys for all your help, hopefully it'll be back on the road very soon!

Careful when taking apart the AFM as you can damage them very easily. Don't undo the two screws either side of the socket!! I made that mistake once. [:o)]

How did it all go??

Not good!
Am having no luck whatsoever :-(
what could've happened if i did undo those two screws?!
I might've maybe done this already :-$
Thanks for your help MRTurbo, is much appreciated! am pretty broke atm so dont want to get a mechanic just yet

Yeah it seems that it is damaged/faulty now unfortunately. Bollocks.
I unclipped the harness and it finally started again but ran rough of course.

Is there any way of fixing these? Am not quite sure what I may have damaged! All i could see was a few terminals when i pulled it apart, it wasn't easy to see and I didn't want to force anything so I just put it back together...
Guess I'm up for a new unit?
