Afm screw was approx 24mm in from edge of hole. The number on the side states 71. I took that as 17.1mm from reading on here. So ive backed it out to approx 17.1mm

Ill take it for another run now. Hopefully it doesnt go BANG!!.

when i get back if its still no dofferent ill remove ecu and have a look at the capacitors. Thanks heaps for those pics, i would have been like a 5 year old looking into a lego technics box with that kind of stuff.

Does the backing off of the afm lean it out or richen it up?... chances it could blow up?....

Okay. So have replace pretty much all vacuum hoses in engine bay, added clamps where there were none.

Have cleaned off some earth points, opened the ecu for a look see, wound the afm screw in to 17.1mm (or there abouts). Checked plugs and leads, cap is new still, knock sensor now fitted in tight.

Took carmfor a test run today and the cut now seems much more predictable. It is able to climb much higher, my guage only reads just under 10lbs but it cut out at just under 160kph under load on slight uphill. Turn car off and the cel clears and i can go drive it again. Doesnt cut out in town anymore just when hitting upper speeds under load.

Going to install fcd next break and see if this eliminates problem altogether now that it is revving freely amd cutting out in a more predictable way.

Any advice on air/fuel ratios for setting the fcd up would be great. I want to give this ,mechanic as much info as possible when setting fcd up on dyno. Cant afford another blown engine.

Cheers

just under 10lbs but it cut out at just under 60kph

Fixed that for you

That said, good to see your making gains.  Sounds like a combination of a lot of maintenance items.

blocked off the vacuum hose from manifold to turbo pressure sensor. took it out and gave it 3 runs with each run increasing boost by 2 clicks on the boost Tee. couldn't get it to cut out so pretty stoked.

Will run her back on the dyno next week when i knock off work. But before i do i'll replace my plugs with a colder set, replace my fuel filter in case i've copped a bad tank of fuel (not uncommon up here!) and see how it performs.

Hopefully this time round it has more power than a lousy 115rwkw. (depressing after a fresh rebuild!)

Installed thermo fan in engine lid, still have the vacuum lines from inlet to boost pressure sensor blocked off.

Put the car back on the dyno this afternoon. fuelling was okay, between 10.53 up to 12.5 so, safe enough for my trip to  Melbourne Next month.

My horsepower and torque has improved but only slightly. so it is now putting down 153RWKW and 350nm. So its about stock at present i guess.

Once i get back from my trip i'll look at new intercooler, fuel system, ignition and perhaps a Link G4 ECU.

at least for now its running nice enough to do the trip.
