Interesting... Gen 3 obviously. Leaning out of inner two cylinders causing detonation was a well know problem with the gen 2, think the gen 3 made some slight improvements, perhaps it is still an issue? Weren't running any individual cylinder trims?
Obviously this sort of problem is hard to detect without being able to measure the AFR on each exhaust runner, or alternatively, exhaust gas temperature. To avoid the same happening again, perhaps have some exhaust temp sensor bungs fited to the manifold and make use of them when tuning to dial in some trims to individual cylinders if required.
Your tuner is competent?
