No issues with starting... drives fine under 3000 rpm... above that it starts to start, bogs etc.

I thought ATS had a good rep? I've read many people using it with good feedback

Ok I installed the missing globe for the engine light an ran diagnostics and yep it's code 52. Fingers crossed the knock sensor fixes the issue and its not wiring

ATS have a good rep and make excellent products. Their knock sensor seems to work great for people who had dodgy knock sensors because the ATS doesn't pick up any knock so doesn't retard the Ig or set a code.

That is my understanding of how it works from what I've read. Have not tried one personally.

Yeah I've done some research on this. Some people have done some test with the ats knock sensor and they said it picks up the right frequency so should work fine... I've also read people installing several oem sensors and it keeps blowning... so hard to know which 1 is the right one to go with

The right one to go with is the correct Toyota one but they cost heaps and like you said can break easily. See how you go with the ATS one. Just run good fuel in case it's not as sensitive in detecting detonation.

I have the same symptoms and code 52, short or open circuit on knock sensor. But mine is more intermittent, is it possible that it's something to do with the EGR? I can see some of my vacuum hoses are flapping in the breeze and I think some of the EGR hoses are blocked off.

I fixed my problem, it was dodgy wiring with an old school piggy back FCON ECU. I deleted it and the car runs fine now. Checked the chips inside it, manufactured 1991... old school :)

Just thought I post an update on this issue. Well I got the new ATS knock sensor and installed it. Cleared the code and set the boost to max 15psi... Issue was some what resolved but still had hesitation but would occur if I push it hard... Checked the code again and this time it was 32 which was the AFM... Big thanks to Carmikey for selling me the AFM and posting out so quickly. Installed it and now the car is smooth as a babies bum... loving life again :)
