I had been set on getting a Haltech Platinum Sport 1000 for my MR2 and I do still like the idea of getting one except for the need to get someone to wire it into my car before I can get it tuned. I have also been reading through a few peoples build threads and seen a few people running the adaptronic and after having a look at the Adaptronic site I saw that the adaptronic is a plug and play and has a few good additional features.
I am wanting to have the ability to set the car up to run E85 but also not be restricted to E85 only whilst traveling so I want the ecu to have flex fuel capability's which both seem to have. Also one advantage if I was to go with the Haltech I would be able to get my car tuned here in Newcastle by the guys at Streamline Automotive who support Haltech ECU's but I am not sure if they support Adaptronic.
 
Anyway any advice or personal experiences would be great to hear.

I'm a Haltech fan to be honest. Most tuners can refer you to someone mobile that can simply wire in the unit prior to tuning, so I honestly doubt it'll be an issue.
 
Do Streamline have experience with 3SGTE's? They may be good with other cars, but experience has taught me to only entrust those with experience with that motor & have proven results.

I spoke with the guys at Streamline for a while about tuning the MR2 and they did say they had worked with an MR2 previously but I guess I don't know how much experience they have with the 3SGTE's overall they also recommended someone who could wire the ECU for me who is quite local to me.
 
I guess when you weigh up the cost of an engine a trip to Sydney is not that expensive really...
 
Who are some of the better 3SGTE tuners in Sydney?

If you can get Hitman from Haltech, he's the best IMO. His closest match & many would vouch for them is JEM. Next would Autotech Engineering in Granville & SAS in Silverwater.
 
JEM & Matt have both tuned some of the best 3SGTE's in Australia.
 
If Adaptronic, MRC would be my pick. But as I said, I'd prefer the Haltech.

I was just having a discussion with MRC today about ECU choices and I was told by Mark to stay away from Haltech as in his experience they always seem to have issues. He pointed me in the direction of Link G4 which he swears by and who also do a plug in unit for 3SGTE's. Having a look at them right now and it seems a pretty good unit as it has the same features as the top of the line ECU they have but instead is designed to fit inside your stock ECU and allows for the stock plugs to be used.

As far as wiring in to your car goes for the Haltech, can't you get a patch loom? Basically a loom that plugs into the factory harness then the other side plugs into the ECU? Places like Wolf used to offer these a while back but I also thought Haltech do too.
I think Haltech have calibration tables for sensors also so you don't need to change any of the factory sensors.
Depends on what features your really after from an ECU, do you need anitlag and stuff or just after fuel and ignition maps. If its just fuel and ignition then wouldn't something like a Power FC be cheap and good enough?

Not sure. Im just about to shoot an email off to them in hope to get a quote. Yeah not sure; from what I can tell the G4+ ECUs all need to be wired in where as the plug in is only offered as a G4  Scratch that. I just found a link to the G4+ plug in ECUs

Power FC would prolly be good enough for Nik Lee's car. E85 flex setup is good & all but there's a bit more involved than just the ecu & sensor. The stock ct20b with e85 would prolly max out @ 220-230rwkw. Compared to say 210-220rwkw.

Tuners are usually biased to an ecu. I still know of some that "swear" by ems & microtech.

So basically go with whichever one your tuner is most comfortable with.
 
I must agree with MR2QIK; with such a marginal increase on a stock 3S using E85, do you really need that option? The PFC might be the best option in that case especially with how cheap they are compared to other options.
